Current Events > What KH games do I need to play to fully get the story?

I get some are remakes and ports. But what do I need to play to get the full experience. Can I just get away with play 1, 2 and 3?

Except maybe Coded. I don't remember much from watching that movie.

The third game actually does have recaps you can watch. I cant say how helpful theyd be to a complete newcomer though lol.

You pretty much need to play all of them. Ill admit I dont know the handheld games well enough to say whether theyre all actually needed.

If nothing else, you should at least watch the cutscenes online or something.

Pretty much all of Coded is pointless except the extra scene at the end and it confirms that the test from Dream Drop Distance is about to happen.

The extra scene from that musical rhythm game is also important enough but the rest is pretty much like Coded.

Youd understand the story better never have played any.

1, 2, Birth by Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance, and 3 will get you the main story. You'll be confused about a lot of things and characters, but that's where the main plot is. Watch the recaps and Back Cover too.

The story is absolute convoluted dog water that led up to an incredibly underwhelming "climax" in kh3. Not worth it.

All of them in the complete collection except coded. None of them have a good story but only coded unironically put me to sleep, all you need to know about coded is something happens and theres a box or some shit

KH: The Story So Far

For a serious answer, TC, get the "All-in-One Package" for PS4. It has pretty much everything, and pretty much has the games listed in the correct order on the main menu.

This is the order to play them in:
1) Kingdom Hearts 1
2) Re:Chain of Memories
3) Kingdom Hearts 2
4) 358/2 Days (cutscene collection; only the original DS version is actually playable)
5) Birth by Sleep
6) Re:coded (cutscene collection; only the DS version is actually playable)
7) Dream Drop Distance
8) Unchained/Union X (not in the collection, this was a phone app that's ended and been shut down; you'll have to watch the scenes on YouTube)
9) X Back Cover (movie based on characters from Unchained/Union X)
10) 0.2 Birth by Sleep
11) Kingdom Hearts 3 (has DLC called Re Mind that's sold separately and should be played after the base game)
12) Melody of Memory (not in the collection, this is a rhythm game that just came out last year)

Another phone app, called Dark Road is also a thing, but it was also shut down after a couple updates. There is story in it as well, but none of it is important at the moment and it should all be released again in the Summer, I think. So no rush on this.
