A non-fungible token (NFT) of Twitter founder Jack Dorseys first-ever tweet could sell for just under $280. The current owner of the NFT listed it for $48 million last week.

Iranian-born crypto entrepreneur Sina Estavi purchased the NFT for $2.9 million in March 2021. Last Thursday, he announced on Twitter that he wished to sell the NFT, and pledged 50% of its proceeds (which he thought would exceed $25 million) to charity. The auction closed Wednesday, with just seven total offers ranging from 0.09 ETH ($277 at current prices) to 0.0019 ETH (almost $6).

The deadline I set was over, but if I get a good offer, I might accept it, I might never sell it, Estavi told CoinDesk via a WhatsApp message on Wednesday.

Estavi has two days to accept the bid, or it will expire.

I decided to sell this NFT ( the world's first ever tweet ) and donate 50% of the proceeds ( $25 million or more ) to the charity @GiveDirectly

Estavi, whose crypto ventures Bridge Oracle and CryptoLand collapsed following his arrest in Iran last year, is in the middle of relaunching his Bridge Oracle tokens (BRG), which were originally on the Tron blockchain, to the Binance Smart Chain.

BRG investors are waiting for Estavi to exchange their old tokens for the new ones. Estavi, who announced the token swap on the same day he put up Dorseys tweet NFT for sale again, told CoinDesk that the swap is being run manually and the process may take up to two months to complete.

Because even at $280, that's paying $280 too much
I'm guessing the even bigger idiot will decline the sale. But he was dumb enough to pay $1.9 million to begin with, so who knows?

as an aside I just checked my crypto wallet... I bought $250 of crypto a few years back just to see what's up.

...

It's up to $30k, would be nice to actually convert that into cash

The literal name for this is "Greater Fool Theory" when you buy some garbage thinking you can sell it for even more to an idiot later.

Idiocy update: Top bid is now at $7000, because you just can't fix stupid

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/jack-dorsey-first-tweet-nft-crypto-entrepreneur-struggling-to-sell-2022-4

Crypto entrepreneur Sina Estavi is struggling to sell an NFT of Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey's first tweet after having shelled out millions to buy the token in the first place.

He auctioned the NFT of the tweet for a whopping $48 million, according to CoinDesk. As of Thursday morning, the highest bid he received was 2.2 ether, or about $6,856.

That's just 0.2% of the $2.9 million that Estavi paid when he bought the NFT in March.
"I think years later people will realize the true value of this tweet, like the Mona Lisa painting," he said then.
*coughing fit of laughter*

A year later, his prediction isn't exactly playing out. After listing the token on NFT marketplace OpenSea, Estavi has found the highest bids are nothing even close to the amount he paid, much less to the amount he wanted for it.

He told CoinDesk and the BBC that although the deadline he set was over, he might either accept a "good offer" or may never sell it.

"I think the value of this NFT is far greater than you can imagine and whoever wants to buy it must be worth," he told the BBC.
The $2.9 million is the bag.
And you're the dude left holding it.
Congrats. Maybe take that $7K so at least you get some money back.
(I know he probably sold it to himself and is going to write it off as a donation on his taxes, but it's fun to pretend he's just a moron and that tax systems aren't fundamentally broken)

"I think someone like Elon Musk could deserve this NFT."
Finally something I can agree w/ him on!

Also, gentle reminder for those who still don't know:

Although Estavi owns the digital right to Dorsey's tweet, it is still publicly accessible to anyone who can use the internet.

I mean, it's even worse than that. Dorsey could permanently delete that tweet forever if he wanted to.
