Then you get the day after off. Or if it falls on a Saturday, you get Friday off and if its a Sunday you get Monday off assuming you dont work weekends.

unless youre a teenager working part time then i can understand wanting it off, but if youre a grown up, i couldnt care less if i work on my birthday or not.

One time I had a court date scheduled on my birthday and they called me three weeks before to let me know they rescheduled because they didnt think I should go to court on my birthday. That was nice of them.

then they put me on probation for 9 months and made me pay 800$

Our is literally a dedicated PTO day. AFAIK we don't HAVE to use it on the exact day (or nearest day if it's a weekend) but I have always used it on the day.
