I loved Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, but it took me a long time to make it through Stardust. It was boring and felt like generic monster of the week shonen filler until D'arby the gambler. It felt like an entirely different show from that point on. I'm halfway through Diamond is unbreakable (I'm at the point where Kira stole some dudes face and cooked dinner for his wife) now, and it's crazy to me how much freaking better it is. I prefer the older art style, but plot and character wise it's several steps up from parts 1-3.

I think so. I'm fine with monster of the week stuff, but inconsistency and asspulls kill shonen for me. Sure, most shonen has that, but it's taken to a higher degree in part 3, even if there are some golden parts in there. And heck, clever enough writing can overcome the mechanical issues, but it's not here, either.

This is why I only recommend the OVA.

The Egypt arc in Stardust Crusaders is particularly bad IMO. The fight with Dio is good but that's about it. In general Stardust Crusaders is definitely weak compared to the rest of the series. Diamond is Unbreakable is my favorite from parts 1-5. Stone Ocean has been really good so far though but I want to finish it before I make any definitive conclusions. It's shaping up to be the best JoJo yet though.

That or part 1, yeah. The bulk of Stardust Crusaders is stuck in this zone where Stands have yet to become creative or interesting in any way. The main cast consists of generic punch guy, generic stab guy, generic projectile guy, generic fire guy and camera-smashing grampa until like 70% of the way through where they get a dog on the team who STILL SOMEHOW HAS A BORING POWER.

I don't think it's fair to call Avdul generic fire guy. Minor spoilers:

He uses fire the way it would typically be used, like, twice? Every other time he's using it as a random tool that happens to be made of fire. His problem was just being an undefined Thing Doer, rather than only shooting fireballs or whatever.

Nope. Take a look at parts 1, 4, and 5.

1 is just straight up boring.
4 is kind of good but everything about Josuke makes me hate the part.
5 is also very boring and predictable.

I loved it when it aired but on rewatch it is hella decompressed. They did not need to give that many villains two or three-part arcs. >_>

My fave is battle tendency.

Joseph is so cool in that one. Also he sounds like gintoki from gintama which is another positive for me.

Josuke isn't that bad. He's basically just a more mellow version of Jotaro.

Eh, I'd say Phantom Blood is probably worse (not bad, just somewhat generic in comparison to later parts). Stone Ocean maybe but the anime is still ongoing and it may redeem that part much like how Golden Wind's anime adaptation did.

I should point out that even the worst JoJo season is still solid IMO

Eh I don't know if I'd call Kakyoin a generic projectile guy since Hierophant Green is probably the most versatile stand within the main crew.

Kakyoin is probably the most competent person on the team 99% of the time. So much that they had to side line him for quite a few episodes. Without him THE WORLD! would have handed Jotaro his ass on a silver platter.

Part 3 also turned Joseph into an idiot. He doesn't feel like the same character at all, and the way he's constantly yelling, Oh my God/Oh No feels so forced (Jotaro does that with "good grief" in part 4, but his VA doesn't sound like he's being held at gun point). At least in part 4 it makes sense why Joseph is so different than part 2 and 3, because he has dementia.

if they didnt make so many of those "monster of the week" fillers actually have parts 1 and 2 then it would be a lot better, but yeah it's just way too lengthy with too little of substance happening. but the peaks of part 3 (dio fight) are straight up the best episodes in the series IMO

part 4 is my favorite by far as a whole

From what I've watched of it I can easily see why people said Persona 4 took a lot of inspiration from it.

Part 3 definitely has some hype moments. In particular, the beginning, middle and end stand out to me. Everything other than that is boring. It could have been solved had they not shyed away from having each arc be a whole number of episodes imo

It's kind of annoying honestly how people just forget the powers their stands have though that isn't unique to part 3. Kakyoin never uses the possession part of his stand ever again after the first episode he's in. Polnareff can "cut air" to block Avdol's flames but somehow forgets he can do this when fighting Enya's mist powers later.

Silver Chariot has a goddamn speed mode and it's just forgotten about entirely, because god forbid anyone outshine Jotaro.

I think all the parts have good and bad parts, so it's mostly going to come down to personal preference. And, personally, Part 7 is by far the best and Part 8 by far the worst.
Most of the monster of the week fights are pretty fun, just enjoy them. That part isn't made to be marathoned. Josuke's a cool dude with decent personality. Giorno is a meme and basic archetype. Jotaro is, oddly, the closest to Kenshiro.

I rate jojo seasons based on how I'm feeling I actually enjoyed every season equally but on my 1st viewing I actually liked stardust crusaders the most. Felt like the stakes were at the highest then.

Yeah, I was using a bit of hyperbole, but I meant that using fire items and using Emerald Splash most of the time is far more boring than I can erase the space between us or I attack using sound effects no wait now I use one sound effect but it does stuff no wait now Im pretty weak but I can make things heavier or I use zippers to access a pocket dimension.

I mean, I like Bruno cuz he's named after a traditional italian cookie my family makes, but besides him, every one of the supporting characters is ass.

Also, while the stands are a little basic in part 3, part 5 is where the stands really start to go off the rails and make no sense lol. Part 4 was the perfect in-between.

Theyre a manifestation of mental energy, hence why every stand is perfect for their user, and why you need a strong mental state to actually use one. Notice how koichi cheated to get his stand and it was just an egg at first, but his character development made it stronger. Though this is more represented after part 3 when they had to get more creative with stands.

If anything, Ive always thought MHAs quirks made 0 sense.
