Makes his joke a little more odd imo. Lots of black women have a shaved head to wear a wig. And lots wear it short with just hats or wraps too.

I mean, in the end it's just a joke. I think there maybe was some behind the scenes beef between the two we don't know about.

In any case, this documentary he did was good. I caught a bit of it when it came out and couldn't take my eyes off it.

Many folks don't know just how much is spent on hair and wigs. My goodness. Give it a watch if you have time. It's well done.

I still suspect the whole thing is a work.

Otherwise, Rock apparently made fun of every couple here but only one guy got up and slapped him.

Only one of them allowed himself to get filmed crying as his wife bragged about sleeping around.

I'd say 95% chance real.
5% work.

The Academy wouldn't have sanctioned it. Chris Rock is smart enough to know better. He's also clever enough to try something else. I would've hoped Will was too.

Not seeing the angle.

But hey, anything is possible.

Makes it less odd, honestly. It implies that he didn't think it was a major thing because it's more common, which in turn means he didn't think it was anything too serious to make fun of.

Hollywood types in general are notoriously srs bzns. The Oscars are their time to jerk each other off over how awesome they all are, and the absolute last thing they want is someone accurately pointing out their hypocrisies and insecurities.

It's why they prefer incredibly bland and safe hosts (like Billy Crystal) over hosts who are more willing to make meaningful or personal jokes (that are actually funny, but which hurt the multimillionaires' feelings).

They want a host who can say things that sound like jokes they can fake laugh at to pretend to be just like everyone else, but nothing too controversial that gets in the way of their tongue-bathing and virtue signaling. Because then they might come to the startling realization that they're just people who get paid way too much to play pretend for a living.

It was just a joke. It's not same sacred thing that is taboo to joke about.

I'm leaning towards this.

Anyway, the documentary is very good and I'd recommend checking it out. A lot of people don't really appreciate that that super-thin manageable stuff is not the natural state for the vast majority of black people, and people go through a lot of trouble to change their hair so it's more in line with western culture. We still get the occasional complaint that someone's hair is not "professional."

Hugh Jackman was the best host. That was a great ceremony.
