People read the story in their local newspaper. They see it on the evening news. They think, Well, thats horrible, but thats a one-off. They dont think much of it after that, said Philip Stinson, a professor at Bowling Green State University and a famed researcher on police who commit crimes. Its not until you aggregate this stuff that you realize, Oh my gosh.

A 2014 study led by Stinson analyzed the arrests of nearly 400 officers, employed across 43 states and Washington, D.C., for sex-related crimes between 2005 and 2007just three years. Beyond uncovering 118 cases of rape, the study found that nearly three-quarters of all the cases involved victims who were younger than 18.

These findings seem to indicate scenarios in which adults allowed police both access and the opportunity to victimize children under their care, the study states. That is, caregivers may be prone to let their guard down in the presence of police in a manner that evokes the infamous scandals involving Catholic priests and the wide-scale sexual abuse of minors.

Cops are even worse criminals than the actual criminals. Because unlike the latter they can molest women and children and get away with it.

This.

Also, where there's men with power, there's sexual assault. Obviously not saying all men do it, but once there's enough, you can pretty much guarentee you got at least one of the perverted evil fucks amongst them.

It's not that cops are bad people that kinda authority just attracts people that wanna abuse it. Then they promote a brotherhood mentality which lowers the chances of the good ones reporting the bad ones. It's the system that's fucked up more than the individuals.

So thats a little over a hundred arrests per year, out of a pool of Im guessing somewhere in the 600-700 thousand people range? The article says nothing about how that compares to the rate of arrests for sex related crimes in the general public so I dont actually know if that is more or less than average.

This is a good observation (though I do think bad people enter the force looking for opportunity the same way bad people entered Boy Scouts, sports coaching, etc)

I really feel there needs to be a outside department that handles criminal investigation of law enforcement officers.

The problem is that Law Enforcement Officers are held to a higher standard.
The people enforcing our laws should be better at obeying them than the standard populace.

There should be ZERO arrests for sexual assault or otherwise among law enforcement.

I am absolutely not surprised

when I was in the police explorer program and we did ride alongs

my advisor never put the girls with male officers he didnt trust

the amount of male officers he trusted was 3 and would just paired with female officers otherwise

he never said it but. He implied it was because the male officers would make a move

these girls were between 14 and 21 btw

Wasn't there a case a year or two ago where a policeman has used his position as an explorer advisor to carry on a years long relationship with a 14 year old?

My point stands.
The people enforcing the law should be held to a higher standard.
They should not fall within the average. Period.

I also believe that any officer breaking any law should be immediately fired and charged.

No suspension, no time off, fired.
They're paid to enforce the law and are no longer trustworthy.

It sounds statistically significant. Roughly 25% of cases that are classically under-reported.

If you want actual numbers. In the United States only, against women. Not cops just citizens. its an annual average of about 100-150k SAs. I think 2015 peaked closed to like over 300k. If you were to use statistics, based on number of police officers employed in the US, the average of 100 million unique police contacts across the US a year. Then no, the OP topic title is false.

The number should be 0 and any cop that does it should be be fired and face harsher prison time. But it is a bait a topic title used to bait the same users to rile each other up with the same anti police rhetoric

They also often extort women for sex.

Happened to a friend of mine. Cop essentially gave her the option of have sex with him or get charged with bs he fabricated.

She called his bluff. He did it, but luckily she fought the case and won. He no longer has a badge.

Sad part is not everyone has the money to fight these bogus charges they come up with.
