I guess RED engine isn't suitable for Witcher games anymore? Or any game really.

Could be School of the Cat.

Geralt and friends were Wolf, Letho was Viper (and it's implied the Viper school is completely dead). The games also mention Bear and Manticore Schools, and Cat and Griffin come from the books.

But the real key is that Ciri has a cat medallion. So this could just be a game about Ciri.

(It's also mentioned that Cat was the only Witcher school that accepts women, so if they do go the "create-your-own-main-character" route, Cat would let them allow female PCs without having to twist the lore).

I do have questions, though, regarding which ending of The Witcher 3 should be considered canon, if any, or this will fall in other part of the world. Also: whether or not the books' author will be consulted at all, or if that bridge had been burned when he tried to sue CDPR for more money, meaning far more liberties than what was seen in the three games combined.

If they have to pick, I assume the happy ending one where Ciri stays a Witcher. It's almost necessary if you want to use Ciri as a main character, and is the easiest way to go if you want Ciri to show up as a guest character in a game centered around a different protagonist.

Though The Witcher tends to be a darker universe, so they could go the Shadow Hearts route and pick the worst possible ending just to rub salt into the wound. But I feel like CDP might be hesitant to piss off players too much right now. They've got a looong uphill journey to try and earn back trust after the Cyberpunk debacle. A bit of minor fanservice might help a little.

I feel like that bridge was burned when they didn't really consult him much for the first three games. And he was pissed because the games were more popular than his books.

Meh, it's more like he didn't care or see the point at first, and accepted a low deal, since he thought the games would not be popular or do well. He did get annoyed at the games being more popular than his books after the fact, but it was his choice, like I said, to try and sue for more money than what he got.

I meant more the kind where you say "Hey, the protagonists of the last game lived happily ever after", as opposed to "You know those people you loved? Yeah, they're miserable and/or died. Wait, you went to all the trouble of doing the extra stuff that meant you got the extra-special happy ending? Hah hah, fuck you! That never happened."

Though talking about canon, I wonder if they would set a specific canon love interest for Geralt. I'd kind of be perversely into the idea of a new Witcher game where you play as a new custom main character and get to romance Triss (assuming it's canon that Geralt wound up with Yennefer, because that really feels like the intended canon pairing in Witcher 3). Because I always felt kind of pressured into picking Yennefer by overall canon and backstory, but I liked Triss way more.

Though to be fair, I think I liked Keira Metz better than either. And would be keen on having her as a potential love interest for a new character if not for the fact that she apparently hooked up with Lambert (unless you got her killed).

Yeah, but I don't think his lawsuit was about money at all. I think it was about bitterness and jealousy that the games were more popular than the books. In spite of the fact that it was the popularity of the games that was a huge spur towards increasing book sales outside of Europe (and ultimately leading to stuff like the Netflix show).

I think him suing for more money was just because it was the only way he could think of to try and get back at the people who made the game, because he just outright hates them now. I don't think he'd feel any better about them even if they had willingly come forward and said something like "Man, we did way better than we thought we would with these games, we want to offer you more money in exchange for the rights, because we all know deep down that the games couldn't have succeeded without your narrative genius." It's not really about the money at all, it's about him being pissed that someone else was essentially more successful using his characters and his universe than he was.

Seems like the school of the cat as already said here. I hope we can create our own Witcher this time around. I'm not against past characters making a appearance though.

Right? I liked Triss more as a character, but liked the Geralt and Yenn pairing more. I'd totally be down to hook up with Triss as my own character, and that actually has nothing to do with the copious amounts of futa art there is of her, Yenn, and Ciri. <_<

Did they say anything about a release date? I'm going to have to buy a prebuilt since there's no way I can possibly build one right now. Was kinda hoping to wait until the new Elder Scrolls was announced but I can't even play Elden Ring.

Not yet, I think they just started development now that they have (mostly) got the initial bugs in 2077 cleaned up.

I liked Triss more

I wish they had used a different voice actress, I really liked her character but the voice just seemed off to me, made it hard for me to like her.
