what about a sequel to the superior Ape vs. Monster?

I think it's the highest grossing movie for something that appeared in both theaters and streaming at the same time. There's money to be had there.

Good. Time for Mecha King Ghidorah to shine.

That or being in Destroyah since they teased him in KOTM.

Or at least they had seemingly moved past their ancestral conflict.

It could just be a solo Godzilla or Kong movie too. Kong still has the whole Hollow Earth to explore, and I don't think Godzilla really gives a shit about that.

Ideally it's a Godzilla movie that introduces Anguirus into the Monsterverse. Gigan or Destroyah would be the best possible villains in my opinion.

Kong gets married and his son does some stupid shit that pisses Godzilla off and they have a quick throwdown at the start before they realize Martha is in danger and must team up.

I much prefer godzilla but I'd take another Kong movie. I wanna see him fucking stuff up in the hollow earth.

Let's see if after the 4th try they get rid of the humans being the main plot.

Why would they do that? The human plot is a key component of basically every Godzilla movie.

I thought legendarys rights for godzilla had expired? Were they renewed?

After the way Kong was mistreated, I'm not sure I want a sequel.

Don't know where'd they'd go with this now. After mechgodzilla (as different as it was) it's kind of a lot of lame leftovers. Maybe get back to the idea Godzilla is a threat they have to deal with.

There's still a ton of monsters. The next logical step would be the killing of Ghidorah getting the attention of other aliens and we get, Gigan, or Space Godzilla elevating the franchise to the next level of goof shit. Or go the hollow earth route and have Anguirus, Baragon, or Megalon burrowing up.

You know, I am curious who will be Godzilla's opponent in the next movie. When you look at the villains in the Godzilla universe, King Ghidorah is number one and Mechagodzilla is a close second. But who's number three?

• Gigan has been in three films, but has always been treated like a B-player despite being Ghidorah's tag team partner. (I love you, Gigan, but you know it's true.)
• Hedorah was one of the strongest foes of the Showa series, and the first villainous monster to score a victory over a heroic Godzilla, but he hasn't had a proper film return unless you count the short film from last year.
• Biollante is like the Andre the Giant of the monsters, and she even shares the same DNA as Godzilla, but she hasn't been seen since her 1989 debut.
• Space Godzilla was designed to be Godzilla's ultimate foe -- and to date is the only one to just straight up kick his ass and leave him laying -- but his film was arguably the weakest of the Heisei series and we haven't seen him since.
• Destroyah brought the Heisei series to an end. Again, a no show in all subsequent films.
• Orga had that "Next Big Thing" presence about him in his film debut, but... HE HASN'T BEEN SEEN SINCE!!

Any one of those six monsters would INSTANTLY become the number three Godzilla villain if he or she returned for the next film in the Legendary series.

So I wonder if it will be actually watchable this time, or locked behind hbo max?

Apparently, Kong isn't in this one. It's called Godzilla III: King of the Sea.

The character has been around for six decades. It's weird to start adding Roman numerals now.

Certainly makes the movies easier to keep track of from start to finish, so it makes sense.

If anything, I think it would be more confusing. King of the Sea sounds like a step down from King of the Monsters - like if Jurassic Park III came on the heels of Jurassic World. And it's the fourth Godzilla movie, not the third.

It was so freaking boring I couldn't stand it. The plot for the humans was complete garbage and they were like 95% of the movie. I fell asleep watching it in the theatre more than 3 times in one sitting, waking up only for the 3 Godzilla and Kong fights and the final fight. I don't feel like I missed a single thing about the movie.

You know, relatively few of Godzilla's adversaries are sea monsters.

There's Ebirah, a giant lobster. Rather than pay royalties to Toho, Legendary would be likely to throw in an original crustacean.

Then there's Titanosaurus, an aquatic dinosaur who would make an awesome cameo; especially since the monsters in this series are already called Titans.

And finally there's Destroyah whose design is a combination of a crustacean, a xenomorph, an RPG final boss, and the devil from Disney's Fantasia.

I think so too, but it would be weird to name your movie "King of the Sea" and then have an alien as the villain. I guess Hedorah does technically adapt to Earth's sea before walking out on land.

I'm not seeing where you got this potential title from though. I googled it and nothing showed up except some random youtube videos that looked to just be trailers for the other Legendary Godzilla movies.

Never mind.

It's a fan made teaser trailer.

When YouTube suggested it to me, I assumed it was official.

That movie was far worse, but at least it treated Superman with a little respect.
