idk, i'm pretty bad at video games and i've beaten all Soulsborne games so far w/o summoning help. it just takes practice and patience.

But FromSoftwares insistence on keeping the game nearly impossible for non-elite players feels foolhardy.

ok, the author is just being dramatic. i am hardly an "elite" player and i can do it. like, when i play CoD i am normally like 1-10 because i am bad. i'm also always high when i play video games and i beat Sekiro and Bloodborne. author just needs some patience and practice.

im terrible at video games
im married with 4 kids and work at least 50 hrs a week
i didnt learn a single boss fight in elden ring
i tried them once then summoned help or my mimic if i lost
i platinumed the game in less than two weeks
shit is literally as hard as you want it to be. you can be carried by other people through the entire game

Right. That would literally throw off the whole balance they put a lot of time in and just tank reviews because of how sloppy it was applied. The reviews being lowered over it would turn off more new comers than not having an easy mode. Most of the people behind wanting an easy mode would of tanked From Soft years ago if they had creative control.

Nightmare mode without even having the break it down. Elden Ring's difficulty is more about people refusing to learn how to play it. As to where Doom on Nightmare will make you cry even if you played FPS's your whole life

Patch 1.03 did make adjustments to atleast 2 bosses. Radahn for example. I first noticed this while watching a streamer and seeing him dodge projectiles while on the horse that didnt seem possible for me lol.. Another example is godskin duo fight with the added optional NPC summon.

So im sure FS could add an easy mode if they wanted.

Grind some souls and get OP and go fight the stuff again.

But for real, there's games that we just can't play because of our abilities. I have tried to get into various MOBA games and have given up. I don't want to put all the attention to detail on it that is getting last strikes on enemies or worry that because I died I just fed the other team some more strength. It's just not for me. I don't bitch or complain or ask them to change how the game is played.

This will likely never happen. But I dont want the people who are hostile to casual gamers, who use that as an insult to keep people out of the discussion, to control the narrative about gaming. Elden Ring isnt for me, and thats OK. But Im still a gamer, and this hill is one on which Im perfectly happy to meet a quick death.

Do they think From Software hasn't heard people say "ADD AN EASY MODE" over and over and over again? You aren't kept out of the conversation. What is happening is the creator (Some might say artist) is saying "that's fine, my work isn't for everyone but I don't want to add one."

Id argue that just goes to show how hard balancing games are. And everyone is asking for them to do all the work of balancing their games twice, against their own creative decisions. Like I said, if they don't, the reviews from people who play on easy will tank the score and make interested newcomers less interested.

Im pretty sure I haven't updated Elden Ring since release and it's completely fine. I play completely offline and my ps5 isn't automatically connected to internet, since I been using a Ethernet cord for my tv. The things people want changed usually don't bother me. Im not looking for reasons to complain.

BTW I'm not saying they should make a new mode. I feel it would be easier than trying to create an entire new difficulty mode.

Make it an item that says "Easy Mode" and you get 50% more max health until you die.

In my experience with ER, the difficulty has far less to do with damage dealt/received and far more to do with learning boss patterns. Most trash mobs don't mean shit unless you're deliberately careless or get swarmed, the real challenge is bosses. There's no good way to dumb them down unless you either reduce their damage by like 90% or eliminate their attack patterns entirely. There's just no good way to implement "easy mode." It would take completely reworking and rebalancing all the bosses.

Limited? I can't think of a game with more freedom except maybe Breath of the World. But this has so much more in terms of things to actually find vs just breakable weapons, korok seeds and shrines.

botw also has those costumes with special effects. like the climbing costume that was my fave because it reduced stamina cost for climbing allowing players to dyno their way up most things instead of having to do it slowly =]

I really liked BotW, but it started to seem that the world was barren. I feel like Elden Ring is the evolution of Dark Souls x Breath of the Wild.

Church. We'd end up with more Ubisoft stype games and less Rockstar/From Soft games. The games that aren't for everyone, like RDR2 and Soulsborne always end up my favorites. And some people's favorites are heavily anime influenced. Which isn't what draws me. So when I like the mechanics and gameplay of heavily Anime influenced games but the story/characters aren't holding my attention, I'm not thinking "They should make this game less like Anime to appeal to more people like me".

For me, Elden ring is way more addictive. I just started another playthrough on a fresh character a few days ago and feel i can put in another 100 hours (altho I'll admit I did feel burnt out after my 3rd playthrough on the same character, but mainly because I was overpowered af at that point). For BOTW after I had collected all the costumes (which required visiting all the shrines) I never fully replayed it again. I did attempt to do another full playthrough 4 diff times but just stopped shortly after leaving the started island. I guess the sense of wonder disappeared for me.

While my sense of wonder for Elden Ring has mostly disappeared as well (still some catacombs I haven't discovered I'm sure) the combat system is the main reason why I'm still playing. Same reason why I played DMC 3 for years despite it having a short single-player campaign.

You definitely climb, it's just that there's not a dedicated mechanic for it. Which I personally love. It gives you that tense feeling that you could mess up the precision of a jump and fall to your death. It's more appealing to me than the tense coming from wondering if a bar is gonna empty before you slowly climb to the top. Instead of a prolonged less involved tension, it's tension comes from every single little movement you make
