I didn't realize until after finishing the game that double jumping during a fall makes you more likely to die because fall damage is based on air time, not distance.

I usually determine it by trial and error. Sometimes with bloodstains nearby

Fall damage in this game is actually way more forgiving for the lower height, it just sharply changes once you approach the death wall.

In DS1 fall damage started at 5 meters, gradually increases past that by percentage until you die at 20, slight alterations from equip load.

In ER, you don't take damage until you pass 15, then until you hit 20 it increases from your 30% to 50%, before hitting the kill wall at 20 still.

So it's a lot more sudden in ER. If you take ANY damage you are close to dying height. You may take 45% damage and think you had room to spare but you were inches from death. In DS1, you could take almost your entirety of your health at at the limit.

So technically ER dropping is more forgiving, but psychologically it seems more frightening.

Also the help menu for Dex says it effect fall damage....completely worthless and should not be factors in. At 99 Dex the difference is pixels, and it has no effect on the 20m death height.

All this to say that all of it is a gift from God compared to the nightmare that is DS2 fall damage.

In all honesty I kind of hope this game is a mic drop moment for them on Souls games. Like, this is such a masterpiece that I honestly have doubts even they could surpass it at this point. Better to leave it at the highest possible note and see what they can explore in other genres. Sekiro was an incredible example of that and I hope the new Armored Core will be too!

Yeah I think a departure from Dark Souls for a while would be preferred, unless they wanna do Bloodborne 2. Also would love to see a Sekiro sequel. Otherwise anything new that they come up with will be welcome.

They were straight up allowed to use that extra archstone to make a new area in DeS and said no. I can't see them doing a sequel.

Rykard easy mode, just put on the fire resistance talisman, get literally all the way up his ass in the middle of the lava, and smack his booty. Nothing can hit you besides his easily dodgeable telegraphed slam. Lava damage will be basically nothing with the talisman.

It's a cool gimmick fight but because of the talisman that is going to be 90% of players first talisman it is arguably the easiest to date.

I had the +2 talisman on, but the lava still staggered me for some reason
Honestly everything went fine, the first phase wasnt even the problem once I realized the timing for L2 attacks.

I just couldn't consistently dodge his meteor parade in phase2, so I got tired of being stubborn.

I also dont know how one normally dodges that earthquake attack the snake has in phase1.

Finally beat Malenia. No summons, no ash, no parry.

I slapped on Bloodhound's Step on my Nagikaba to dodge the flurry and replaced my Uchi with Rivers of Blood, but I didn't use Corpse Piler. The difference in damage was significant, but it took longer to bleed her so I'm not sure exactly how much of a difference it made. Also interestingly I no longer seemed to ever seemed to break her into a riposte, but that was only happening once or twice before.

Feels good man.

Also for those interested SmvR found what seems to be a consistent close range roll dodge for the flurry, but hell if I can do it properly. I'm not sure if it's Light Roll only.

Yeah again the fight is easy once you get the L2 pattern down
(dont do it too early, or he just shrugs it off and attacks you right afterwards. Dont wait because he likes to attack when he sees you charging up.)

Its just that it was so out of my usual ballpark (I rarely use L2 attacks or Arts) that I needed time to adjust.
Then I just ran out of patience

Yeah, he means the weapon skill. You can't change the spear's L2.

The first hit takes a while but stuns him. The second hit does a ton of damage (which I embarassingly didn't even realize was a thing when I fought him).

But just poking him with it works just fine too.
