Why is this still being practiced? Fall back to Standard Time and leave it that way.

The argument for DST is it provides us with more daylight (we get that as Earth leans closer to the sun), helps us "save money" so we don't have the lights on (longer, summer days with AC running is more expensive than a light or two staying on) and supposedly to help farmers (didn't research enough to bring up counter point). I'm sure I missed a reasoning or two for the rationale behind DST (they're probably outdated, too) but I personally find the fact that DST still a thing is ridiculous and folks want a permanent DST?

That's not the point I was trying to make.

DST has more daylight, thus "saving" people money from having lights on for most of the day. My argument is with longer Summer days, people are likely to have their ac on longer since it's going to be warmer for more of the day.

Blasting the AC all day will cost someone more than having some lights on.

Who gives a FUCK about the AC. Everyone that lives in a backwards ass region that practices it wants DST to end

It's just as hot no matter the time change and I don't think I've seen an A/C unit without a thermostat.

My point about the AC is almost a non factor, being that it'll be the Summer and most people will have it on, regardless of the time of day. I was arguing that if DST went away, people might have the ac on for less.

It all circles back to getting rid of DST. It's pointless and the "benefits" are outdated or provide little benefit.

Wouldn't a/c be on longer since the sun is out when people get home in the evening?

Still deciding if i'm gonna abide or be an hour late to work tomorrow and play dumb. I still use a standard radio alarm clock, not my phone.

It's been shown that people get depressed more easily in the winter months caused by it getting darker sooner. This leads to more suicides during the winter months. Why do you want more people to kill themselves?

It's also been shown that people get into more car wrecks with the implementation of DST, yet not with Standard Time (not sure why but there you go).

DST is also bad overall for everyone's health, changing our sleep rhythms and leading to an increase in heart attacks.

As I mentioned in another topic, this is kind of necessary to regulate extremes.

Don't get me wrong, I hate it. Since the Sun rises and sets differently in different parts of a time zone, some people are hit with horrible extremes if there wasn't some type of on and off of both. In the summers, the Sun would rise at 2:45 AM in some places with no DST.

DST should have basically no effect on AC usage unless you manually turn it on/off when you enter/leave your house, at which point the amount of daylight remaining *may* slightly affect your usage.

If it's hot out though, you can call it 3PM or 3AM, you're still gonna run it.

You know that they've done studies on the cost savings and energy savings right?

I dont want the sunrise to be 9:30am in winter or 3:30am in the summer. Dailylight savings time is fine and purposeful

Yeah, this. As soon as it ends it's super depressing because I almost literally don't get to see the sun until it starts again. With DST it's actually bright for a bit after I get out of work.

I'm just glad they do it on a Sunday now. I think it used to be on weekdays before on occasion. That was criminal
