Like almost PS1 rpg level bad. I expect more from a game from this gen, especially Square-Enix.

Its really not that bad.

It's a JRPG, so it having good voice acting was always against the odds.

That said, it's really not terrible. It's the first JRPG in a long time that hasn't driven me to turn off voices.

It's the worst part of the game, easily.

I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. Some of the voices caught me off guard in relation to the portraits but none have stuck out as bad, in fact I kind of like most of it.

The voice acting isn't bad by itself but the way there's an artificial pause as the game waits to render the next line completely ruins it even if it was the best performance in the world.

Im pushing back on this. Voice acting in JRPGs has gotten a lot better over the last few years. Not only are the actors more talented, but the direction has gotten a lot better. Just look at games like Persona 5 or Trails of Cold Steel 4

It's not that bad, outside of Serenoa's voice direction, definitely not the best, but I've definitely heard a lot worse

It's definitely a low point, and Serenoa's voice in particular has been annoying, but it doesn't detract too much from the game.

Its not that bad but voice direction for some of the characters could have been much better.

some games just shouldn't have voice acting

Don't think any games released now will have characters sounding like they're speaking through a can. They massively improved it in the Baiten kaitos prequel, too bad that game didn't sell well enough.

I'll push right back and say that JRPG voice acting, while better than it used to be, still isn't good for the most part, particularly in games with large amounts of anime archetypes which tend to have a specific kind of voice.

And I'll push back your push back and say that guy was right! jRPG voice acting has definitly come a long way, like Persona and Tales games. I'll admit that they may still use specific types of anime voices that can be grating tho (like the cutesy animal mascot for example).
