He went from being a butler to a father figure, to a master tactician mentoring Bruce. Not sure how I feel about recent Batman movies constantly expanding Alfred's storyline. Alfred being a former intelligence officer is something that gets brought up depending on the writer. First I heard of it was because of the Pennyworth show, but if Wiki is to be believed it was a thing pre Crisis too. I honestly prefer it being that way than just a butler. That shit is played out. Alfred is always the man who beat the SHIT out of Superman for hurting his family.
