Jaya, born in London to a Muslim Bangladeshi family became radicalized at 17 after the Sept 11. attacks.

In 2004, she married an american muslim convert named John Georgelas who went by Yahya al-Bahrumi

He took her and her 3 children to Syria against their will in 2013 and says he was the highest ranking american is in the islamic state.

After 3 weeks, she reported him to US authorities and fled Syria to the US

She's since lived in Plano, Texas, her now ex husband's home state and works to reprogram those who've been radicalized

It was here that she was introduced to Taylor as they got very close and the affair lasted for a year

Joya reached out to Suzanne Harp, who was running against Taylor and Self in the republican primary hoping the rival would privately tell Taylor she knew of the affair and to push him to drop out of the race and resign from Congress

Dallas Morning News said Joya was annoyed seeing her ex-lover's face on billboards as Joya said "All i wanted was for Suzanne Harp to just say, hey, i know your little scandal with Tania Joya. Would you like to resign before embarrass you? But it didn't happen like that"

Instead, Harp sent a supporter to interview Joya with the story and went on BREITBART with an exclusive that ultimately destroyed his career

Both stories said Taylor tried to pay 5000 in hush money

Harp called the affair shocking, disturbing and unbecoming of a sitting US Rep on the election day eve

Taylor still got 48.8% of the vote while Self got 26.5% and Harp got 20.8%.

With him resigning, it's now down to Self or Harp

Taylor DIDN'T get an endorsement from Trump as he was one of the 4 Texas Republians who voted in favour of certifying the 2020 election

As for the poll... honestly I think the thing about me that I would personally consider disqualifying might actually spike my popularity; I think it's a sign of my poor psychological health but some people would see it as some sort of, I don't know, badass moment or something. Hmmm While the affair was bad, I dont think it destroyed his career. And he still got the votes. Im not sure why he had to drop out. This story is weird. Maybe Im not understanding something

The only bad thing about this is that it was an affair, but the only thing the GOP thinks is bad about this is that she's a former ISIS wife (despite the "former" being a consequence of her escaping because she wanted nothing to do with them). Despite their ostensible love of wholesome Christian values, the party has demonstrated at every possible turn that they don't actually care about infidelity unless they see it as an opportunity to defame somebody they don't like.

I thought they were just doing journalism by framing his marriage to her in that way. Sort of like, "she has a connection to ISIS, how scandalous, how can anyone marry her again". Which seems to be what they care about more. If the story is "politician cheats on wife" then the ISIS details they included just distract from what should be the focus.

Politicians have affairs all the time. Who cares?
