Beautiful games, imaginative settings, but I play videogames to relax.

I know some people need *something* to feel good about in their lives, and for them it's being able to play hard games but for the rest of us, it's like, yeah, nah mate.

This is getting tiring. Souls games are centered around one thing that makes them stand out and people want them to change it just because. If it isnt for you it isnt for you and move on. You dont see me playing Animal Crossing or Nintendogs cause they got 9s and 10s.

If the Souls games were centred around one thing, we wouldn't see the attention to detail with the settings and the absolutely exquisite art design.

People overblow the difficulty of these games. The same was for Returnal. It takes a small amount of time to just calibrate to the strategy of these games. The initial learning curve is the worst, but it's brief, then it's a very consistent difficulty curve that continues as you begin to master the mechanics. But rarely overwhelms you after that initial period.

I don't understand why an extremely minor change is such an issue. It's not exactly like it'd be hard to code some multipliers to damage/healing, etc

It's not like people are going "Ok, now change every glittering gold poo in the game into a soft serve icecream".

The spirit of the game would still be there.

I have a full time job and a side job. I don't want to be terrorized by a game. I love everything about the games except the difficulty and obtuse game structure. It feel like a bad 90s game sometimes.

They should just have special unlockable weapons, underwear and bosses for the gatekeepers on higher difficulty settings so they can still feel special.

Every single souls game and Bloodborne can be completed just by summoning other players and watching them kill shit for you. 90% of content can be trivialized by putting all your points in defensive stats and HP, and giving yourself enough equip load to fast roll in the heaviest armor sets with a full tower shield.

For as much as people hyped up the difficulty of fights like Ornstein and Smough, you can literally face tank them if you've got enough health and you're wearing something like the Giant's set. I went in that fight blind and cleared it on my first try just by summoning Solaire and being a walking brick wall

And because of that, the combat finally crosses the line from "challenging but fair" to "oh your character didn't do the thing your button press meant him to do? Get gud."

Yes I know how it works. It still has shit hitbox detection.

And heaven forbid you try to do it anywhere except a perfectly flat area, or your character will randomly dehorse instead of charging away.

In what way? I just figured out how both attack commands work on a steed and it got a whole lot easier with practice.

Just once I'd like a new argument for easy mode and not the endless ways to rephrase "I only have fun with games if I'm winning with no effort." One publisher says no and the FOMO triggers. If you are unwilling to put in some effort, maybe you don't love it as much as you say.

Actually what you just said is what doesn't make sense. Because yet again, you can have an expectation for a game being hard and making a setting to make it easier for others doesn't change that level of difficulty what so ever. It literally has no change to the person wanting a hard game, because they aren't being forced to play the easier mode. There is absolutely no logical reasoning to say there shouldn't be an easier mode.

I have played 0 of the games and doubt I ever will because the gameplay doesn't look appealing to me.

Adding an easy mode makes a game more challenging. Not only can you still play on the regular difficulty, you also need the willpower to resist the urge to switch to easy.

The ability to summon other players has always been the difficulty slider in from software games. This is why I refuse to play cooperatively, because it often makes the game far too easy.

This reminds me so much of the complainants about Fire Emblem. If you dont like causal mode, then dont use it.

Honestly, the only time I ever really got mad because a game had an easy mode was when Nintendo decided to add those stupid golden boxes to several Mario games, and while you could choose not to use them, you couldn't simply turn them off. So they would always appear, almost taunting you for dying more than a few times. And a lot of those Mario games got pretty hard in the post game special world, but if you made it that far, you're not going to want to use those boxes anyway, so it just comes across as weirdly mean spirited.
