Have to thank CE for that. Never tried freetaxusa.com but saw a couple of threads a few weeks back talking about it.

Fuck Turbotax lol

I switched to Credit Karma a few years ago when Turbo Tax wanted to charge me for a specific thing that Credit Karma did free. Now I'm going to have to switch to Cash.App since Credit Karma sold their platform to them. I can't even remember what that one thing was that Turbo Tax wanted to charge me for. I think it was something student loan related, but I've always had them. I might check out freetaxusa, but I would prefer cash app if they have my previous years.

It was pretty easy to go through and enter my and my wife's W2s, and various 1099-INTs and 1099-DIVs. I would have had to pay $99 for TurboTax premier, which would have covered the (1) stock sale I made late last year, where I only gained $28 in the sale. So I would have had to upgrade to the higher TurboTax to cover that stock sale which would have just put a wash on the tiny amount of money I made lol. Freetaxusa is letting me prepare and file Federal for free, and only $15 for state filing. Would have paid $138 for the exact same thing on Turbotax.

I've been using TT for years, and Freetaxusa was super easy to switch to. They also make it really easy.

I mean I know you already paid for TT but maybe think about switching to Freetaxusa next year

Same thing that happens anytime you owe cash to Big Brother. They won't send you to jail, they'll just take what you owe out of your paychecks

I just go to my parent's house and use my dad's copy of turbo tax, then have my dad (a CPA) review it before submitting.

I save all of that by living somewhere where the equivalent of your IRS just automatically figures out if you're due a tax refund and pops it into your bank account.
