I can only speak on my experience, I disagree with the majority of his political positions but TC tends to be a high quality poster for someone who is right leaning.

Oh trust me, the language and attitudes surrounding Jan 6th are another one of the reasons I'm stepping away from them. I gave some examples, but there are a lot of factors that have led to this decision. I've been thinking about it ever since the election in 2020. The whole "stolen election" narrative is a huge factor in turning me off from them.

I don't really agree with the Democrats on most things, either, is the real issue. Neither party really suits me as an individual anymore. I'll vote when something appeals directly to be, but I'm not gonna vote just to try to make one side or the other soon or lose if neither is gonna do the stuff I want.

Thanks, that means a lot too. I know it's kind of the style around here to be disingenuous and make topics just for the attention, but I really mean it. Republicans have gotten so, so much harder to stomach ever since covid hit, and it's getting worse instead of better.

I'm in a similar boat. I dont really vote, because neither party really matches up with my positions.

Though, I dont think I've ever supported Trump, beyond thinking he was funny and thinking how mad he mad some people was funny. I've said before that he is a buffoonish con man who managed to stumble his way into the presidency by some unholy miracle.

Lot of stuff you've said in the past was pretty messed up but good on you for doing some self reflection. Your non-political posts are pretty good.

A lot of what I've said has been born of being swept up in the political fervor of 2016. Some of that intensity has still carried through to this day, but looking back I got way too heated in a lot of those discussions. Politics have a way of making things very adversarial, when in the end, we're all supposed to be on the same team as Americans, but also as humans, so it's a strange thing to think about when you're not in the middle of a debate.

Honestly, I gave my (former) party more credit than they ended up deserving. I consider myself to be pretty reasonable, and I had faith that the vast majority of Republicans were also reasonable. As it has turned out over the recent couple of years, I was overestimating the common sense and self control of the party, collectively. Turns out the people I actually identify the most with are, ironically, the ones who don't identify with either party. There's just way too much mud slinging, too much anger, too much resentment from each party to the other.

I don't want any part in it. I don't like it when my dad talks to me and insults Democrats as a whole and expects me to agree. I don't like it when people on this board think I'm an evil bigot because I support republican candidates. It's just too fucking much. The arguments are circular and they never go anywhere but down. Worse than a circle, in fact. They're a spiral.

Your guy ran on jailing his political rivals and journalists. Your guys primary political strategy was to divide the country. You don't get to complain about resentment coming back your way when you support a candidate who wants to put me in fucking jail.

We don't have to agree on policy. Just don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. In the 2020 election one candidate ran on dividing the nation and jailing his political opponents. The other candidate ran on a message uniting the nation. These are not the same thing.

You're facing similar reactions like how DarkRoast did when she said she couldn't identify as a republican anymore because of the way they reacted to the pandemic, but that was also because she had a history of being very dismissive when Republicans were doing shameful things and does a lot of "but what about Democrats". I had something similar happen to one of my Uncle who is a MD at a hospital. He was also a Republican, but started to drift away from it as well because he saw the insanity that was happening with the Republicans. His mind totally changed to Independent as well when he got accused from a group of people being a "fake doctor" because he recommended for people to take the vaccine.

I don't know you 100% so I'm not entirely sure what's your history on CE either, but don't let other people judgement of you change anything, me included lol.

Nah, it's just flat out true that Democrats and Republicans dehumanize each other and portray one another as villains. It's a long standing issue that has gotten worse in recent years. I'm pretty tired of it. Don't expect me to become a Democrat anytime soon, either.

Yeah, that's pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back, for me. Time and time again they'd come out with the worst takes imaginable. The whole Q-anon thing is republican driven, too, which just adds to the terrible pile of it. Thankfully I was able to show my dad the hilarious gathering at the grassy knoll waiting for that one Kennedy to come back from the dead to address the nation, and Dad realized they were completely wrong. Dodged that bullet.

I'm not a fan of the organized effort to undermine trust in our elections. That one feels a little new (but I'm probably wrong on that one). Anti vax is just a logical extension of the anti science, anti education, and anti expertise efforts that have been around since I could remember imo.
