When the trailer first started I thought my hopes of them moving on to a new Xeno IP and leaving the original Xenoblade Chronicles in peace after the remake were being realized. Then after the trailer went on and it quickly became apparent that this would be smashing 1 into 2 in more unfortunate ways, those hopes were dashed. --- move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. It was Anime but it was pretty tame, especially compared to X2. I want the anime levels to be brought down to something like YYH, not seasonal anime degen bullshit. XC2 strong point is definitely the gameplay, which the game does a very bad job in explaining. I had to watch youtube videos and read guides online to get a better scope of the gameplay to finally have a good time with it or else every enemy in the game is just a giant hp sponge. Anyways Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is going to go anime, XC2 is the series best selling game so they're going to stick what worked. Like yes, XC2's tone is extremely cringe and painful as it diminishes the impact of its own story-telling at almost every turn. Which is goofy and of course a downside when it comes to character writing, but none of that bothered me as much as awkwardly making this new absurd and comical setting be the progenitor of XC1's universe via a wacky Kingdom Hearts-tiered plot device where half of a human is absorbed into a new universe but the other half stays in the original world but they are linked still so the half that is left behind is also a weird demi-god now, but he can tell the new universe half was his 'bad side' and is being a cheeky blighter so he feels bad about it and also if his other half dies in the new universe then he dies too... sigh --- move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. The first time I played the game I took its story and plot at face value, and had a somewhat good time with it. It relied a bit too heavily on tired old anime clichs and Jin is literally Shadow the Hedgehog, but otherwise not bad. It was the second playthrough that opened up a massive pit of plotholes: character motivations were revealed to be very inconsistent, Nia went through character assassination, and a lot of the worldbuilding doesn't add up to what the game says it does anymore. The second playthrough was jarring, and made me actively dislike the game's story. Conversely XC1 actually gets better on a repeat viewing when you know everyone's motivations. There are also a lot of moments where characters or systems speak to the players and nobody knows what's being discussed (like the High Entian Tomb) that are crystal clear on a repeat viewing and add to the overall experience. --- Others don't get to dictate what's normal and what isn't.
