The twist at the end of 2 is what pushed me over from 2 being a cringe game with complex and (mostly) fun gameplay, ultimately disappointing and jarring but safely establishing its own thing, into something actively retconning and undermining a previously self contained title and the philosophy of it's antagonist and creation story.

Like yes, XC2's tone is extremely cringe and painful as it diminishes the impact of its own story-telling at almost every turn. Which is goofy and of course a downside when it comes to character writing, but none of that bothered me as much as awkwardly making this new absurd and comical setting be the progenitor of XC1's universe via a wacky Kingdom Hearts-tiered plot device where half of a human is absorbed into a new universe but the other half stays in the original world but they are linked still so the half that is left behind is also a weird demi-god now, but he can tell the new universe half was his 'bad side' and is being a cheeky blighter so he feels bad about it and also if his other half dies in the new universe then he dies too... *sigh*
So it's fine that the first game set all this crazy stuff up but not fine that the second game continued what it started and made an awesome link to the first

2 knows when to be serious and when to be goofy. When the game is serious, it is dealing with some fucked up stuff
