I have a decade to go before I qualify for social security unless I become disabled (or more importantly unless I go through the process of becoming labeled as disabled which I won't do).

My life expectancy with my various medical issues, being diabetic and my family history is definitely less than 10 years. Therefore it is extremely unlikely that I will ever get any social security at all, even though I paid into it my whole life.

I think you should be able to get it early, at around 50, if your willing to only get it for so many years. While it would not be suggested for most healthy people, if you are NOT healthy, you should be able to choose to receive it without being designated as disabled after 50, if your willing to reduce the number of years to only 10.

What do you think, and would you choose the option when you turned 50 if that was implemented?

Btw, I do intent to work as long as I can, but that isn't going to be another 10 years for sure, and no, I do not intend on being declared disabled to get benefits early, I think the fact you have to do that is messed up.

I wouldn't (healthy, fully intend to live and be in shape/healthy for as long as possible), but can understand someone in your position taking such a deal.

I don't think it'll ever be feasible sadly, b/c inevitably a bunch of short-sighted selfish ass holes who don't have any reason to expect a shortened lifetime that just want some cash up front will take the deal, burn through the money irresponsibly, and then once it runs out go crying about it and of course the government will fucking bail them out. And enough taxpayers will recognize that outcome and vociferously reject such a proposal.

I don't know what your medical issues are, but I hope you beat the estimates! Plenty of people w/ cancer or such given time tables end up outpacing them.
