Any time civilians and cops have stressful encounter, 100% of the blame is on us to properly navigate the situation. And not on the cops who are supposed to be trained for such situations

If they kill you, oh well. They get paid vacations and a promotion

Everyone involved - including both officers that performed it and judges that approved it - needs to be facing prison time.

Okay this sounds ridiculous. The man was asleep on the couch. They wake him up and apparently he was holding a gun (I call BS, who sleeps while holding a gun?), so they shoot him. Doesn't sound like he even had time to fully wake up and process what was happening.

This no knock shit needs to fucking end, how many innocent people need to die because of this shit before someone finally ends it ???!!!!

How many wrong houses need to be broken into before the police stop this bullshit that clearly does more harm then anything else.

I'm genuinely curious as to his thoughts on THIS specific shooting - does he feel it was justified? Is there anything the civilian should have done differently in his opinion?

Seems like a problem to on one hand believe that people have the right to own a gun to defend their homes, and at the same time think that someone reaching for a gun when he's woken up by strangers storming into his house is a valid reason for him to be killed.

I looked at the article, really hoping to see he was recovering as the topic doesn't specify. Nope...

Oh yes I saw that post, and to be fair darkp didn't go any further, which is why I'm curious as to what he meant by offering that observation.

We need to invent full body bullet proof outfits for the cops, this way they have to wait until shot at to fire their weapons. Also the no knock crap needs to go unless lives are on the line like an active hostage situation or something like that.

Funny thing is, the 2nd amendment nuts will defend cops, and then cry about freedom with regard to the vaccine, while an American owning a legal gun and apparently using it to defend himself against what he deemed an intruder, getting killed, and if this is anything like past cases, gets no justice, just goes right under their noses. We know why too but none of the usual suspects will admit it.

It's a well known issue, the world over. The heads of the police force are all fully aware of it and do fuck all. Numerous reports of police officers being gleeful over their abuse of minorities in the UK recently with fuck all done about it and in America they proudly tout of how many they kill or might get to kill.

The entire police force, world wide, is utterly beyond corrupt. No amount of decent officers (and some do exist) can change that they are part of an abusive and evil system. Especially when any that do speak up get fired.

This is f***** up. It shows how not everyone has the right to bare arms.

This man had every right to grab his gun and fire considering as far as he knew somebody was breaking into his house

No knock raids should automatically nullify the self defense rights and police powers of a cop until they vacate the property and cease all violence. It should entirely nullify most warrants for nonviolent offenses and grant all occupants immunity to any and all charges of excessive force, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest etc.

Any death resulting from a no knock raid is considered first degree murder on the part of every cop involved even if not a single shot was fired by any officer.

Any property damage should have to be repayed twice it's value(based on whichever is greater out of its purchase price or current value) and all medical bills paid on top of a flat 1 million dollar payout(adjusts for inflation)

The officers in question if no one died still are stripped of their badge and barred from service in law enforcement anywhere in the country. Attempting to join any law enforcement agency anywhere in the country results in life in prison.

This is how it should be. A few tiny highly specific exceptions for extreme emergencies.

Yeah, it would be nice if we had the technology to give police completely bullet proof armor and helmets.

Because I feel like a lot of these incidents come down to police being really jumpy. It's drilled into them that it only takes a split second to be shot. So we get incidents like this where they immediately open fire.

The guy who was sleeping is at fault. As a civilian he should have known better to sleep with a gun next to him in his own house. He also should have been able to conclude these were policeman who woke him up after breaking into his home.

Next you're going to tell me it's the cops responsibility to have training or that they shouldn't be breaking into people's homes announced.

In case it's not obvious, I am not defending the cops.
