Like I just want the best SCOTUS pick possible. I get wanting to promote diversity and wanting to give minority candidates extra attention in the search process, but to outright say you will pick a black woman seems in bad judgment.

Certainly, a black woman may very well be the best person for the job, but you wouldn't know that until you have done a search. For all I know these candidates are already lined up just in case.

I mean, if he had it nailed down to five people and all of them happened to be black women then he said the next SCOTUS pick will be a black woman then I'd say "yeah that's an appropriate way to describe the situation."

there is a large field of basically equally qualified people out there. Do you think every person selected to SCOTUS was the single best option every time?

One black woman I didn't like, surely all black people are the same then and none of them will do a good job.

I'm sure all the people here clutching their pearls about "the best pick for the job" was clutching their pearls when Trump vowed to nominate a woman.
