Nobody should be convincing you to play a game.

If you considered the DP remake to be "dogshit," then you're just not interested in Pokemon anymore, period, and you should probably bail.

These takes are just wrong.

Is there anyone who thinks SwSh was awful and still thinks this is good? Couple of those may be enough to convince me.

Will give an answer on this later.

Howso? If you're not interested in a game, and you let somebody convince you to play it, chances are you're going to go in expecting to resent it to begin with. It's different if you're atleast sorta interested, but from the sounds of it, he's not a fan of where Pokemon has gone. And yes, Legends is a bit of a different take, but if he reads reviews and it sounds like something he's not going to find fun, then it's silly to force himself to play it just because somebody else says it's fun.

You've gotta atleast be sorta interested in something to begin with, or else the likelihood is you're going to have a bad time. Mindset going into a game is very important.

I think you misunderstand what I mean by looks bad. I mean that literally. Looks like a high end Wii game.

The game play stuff I have no first hand opinion on!

Oh, then that's different, obviously. If you've got an open mind to the actual gameplay, then ignore my posts.

I meant moreso that if you've read reviews and researched what the game is about, and your opinion is "This sounds awful," then you're probably better off not forcing yourself to play something.

If the core game is good in certainly happy for it, but it's still wild to me that one of the biggest media franchises in the world is given no budget and is made to work on 10 year old handheld game technology (word going around from diggers that some animations and models are still coated over from X/Y) for the console releases.
I think the issue isn't so much budget, moreso that Gamefreak just aren't that used to making console games. I think that's why so much was cut from SwSh, because they just ran out of time getting the game working. And although I won't defend Gamefreak's animations too much, there's nothing inherently wrong with reskinning models and resuing animations if there's no benefit to making new ones.

Question, if it's even relevant for whatever movelist this game has.

If a pokemon had a move that says punch or kick, do they actually punch or kick?

Budget is a measure of time * # of employees. Gamefreak has around 200 employees, and puts out a Pokemon game every other year. Compare that to something like Breath of the Wild, which had over 400 employees working on it for over 5 years (300 from the core team and 100 from Monolith), or Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which had 1000 employees working on it for 4 years, and you can see the difference budget makes. The reasoning I've heard for this is that The Pokemon Company forces them (does TPC own Gamefreak? Not sure about the relationship) to put out frequent Pokemon games in order to sell more merchandise, since the merchandise makes way more money than the games.

No, it's the opposite. TPC is jointly owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. (Wikipedia lists Nintendo's share as 32%)

It gets even more confusing when you add in that Nintendo owns 10% of Creatures, so I don't know how that affects Nintendo's total share.

This is true, but it's worth nothing that GF have that few employees by choice. Something about wanting to remain a tight-knit studio. And as others have said, GF are part of the decision to put out a Pokemon game every year (ish), so it's either just a lot of unfound confidence to deliver a quality product despite lacking the manpower and technical skills or they know people will buy it anyway and until they don't, Nintendo and Creatures don't have a good reason to force them do it any other way.

I thought Sword and Shield were pretty disappointing aside from Pokmon designs and variety.

This game is great. I spend a lot of time doing almost nothing.

Will give an answer on this later.

Played a bit, the game definitely has issues that plague a lot of pokemon game(Framerate can struggle, low resolution, flat textures, recycled everything, limited customization, etc), but I've been having fun with what I've played so far. I don't know how long the game is going to be, but just exploring the first area felt like it took a long time. Thats not something I could say about Sw/Sh.

The game definitely has some issues with theming. A lot of the advertised aesthetic doesn't really exist. Since characters are all based on characters we've seen before...they are all very much wearing clothing that seems out of place.

But again, having fun so far. Will see if this keeps up when I get a chance to pick it back up.

How much of the Dex grind is necessary? Im seeing stuff like catch the same Pokmon 15 times and that just sounds like a chore if you have to do that for all the non-special ones

Basically none. It's pretty easy to get to level 10 just by catching and battling a few of each species. Completing every research task for a Pokemon is a method to increase that species' shiny odds, and it's designed to be entirely optional

I have played this game more than I played Sword and Shield pre DLC already.

(Dumped them after completing the meager postgame quest, which I dont think even rung up 15 hours.)
