some people have to work harder at it than others, but they could still prioritize keeping the weight down. Everyone has to work harder at certain things than others, but it is still your own failing if you don't take control of your own life.

Im being anecdotal, though. Most people in my life who are overweight either have a from-birth condition or had a sudden health issue that led to their weight. Or stuff like birth control pills.

Yes, birth control pills can make it harder. But then you realize that your weight is going up and course correct. I don't accept this "woe is me, I have no control bullshit".

And talking about being born with stuff. I was born with autism, but I worked really hard to learn how to be social and communicate properly. I had to work much harder than many others, but I did it. Same thing.

My last GF though went from a skeleton to a panda in very short time just from taking birth control pills. Not saying she shouldnt have still worked more at losing weight, I just dont think its fair to judge from my lucky position.

Sure but like for example my SIL is one of ~a dozen people in the world with a condition that makes it incredibly hard for her to move and breathe. Shes done great at combatting it but is still overweight.

My mom had a hernia while birthing one of my siblings and went from a twig to obese and never shook it off no matter how much she exercised.

Yeah, the SIL and mom examples suck and I do empathize. But pretty sure that is not the norm. Almost everyone I know who is overweight is from too much / wrong food and not enough exercise.

I also can state that now that I am over 40, I gain weight sooooo easily. It sucks. I hope to lose like 10 pounds but it is admittedly a lot of work. But I also know it is in my own hands.
