All of my teeth are in perfect condition, except for one molar that was shattered in a sporting accident years ago, and has slowly fallen apart over the years. Now an eroded shard is all that remains, jutting from my gums like a sea stack

Hahahahahaha no.

Had about half of them removed and replaced with dental implants ~10 years ago. 15 teeth pulled in one surgery. One of the best decisions of my entire life, tbh. It's not embarrassing to smile anymore.

Plus it's kind of like having a super power. The implants are so strong you could hammer them into a block of wood like a nail. And they're so firmly seated with titanium screws and some kind of cement-like adhesive that if you were to try and rip them out, you would literally pull the jawbone out before the teeth came loose. I'm like Jaws from 007, except they're not ugly.

No, had one of my 4 wisdom teeth pulled after it chipped due to decay (it was gross, basically crumbled apart lol).

I would've gotten the other 3 out if I knew the process was only going to take 20 minutes.

Also have a fake tooth via bridge because my adult teeth never formed in that spot.

Had my wisdom teeth removed years ago - the two on my right side 3 days before I turned 21, and the upper left one almost 2 years later. Lower left one never formed.

Also missing a back molar on my upper left - had it pulled in early 2016 because it was a broken-up, infected mess.

There's no coping going on. My teeth were royally fucked up since childhood and it had a massive impact on my confidence and self-esteem. Finally doing something about it was the best decision I ever made. You should try not being able to open your mouth without being embarrassed for 20+ years, having it get so bad that you couldn't even eat certain foods anymore, and then suddenly being given a perfect smile. It has literally changed my life.

And I cannot recommend enough that anybody who struggles with bad teeth should absolutely go talk to a dentist/dental surgeon and see what you can do to fix it. You don't realize how much it affects every aspect of your life, both physically and mentally, until you've seen what it's like to not have those problems anymore.

Final cost for this full treatment of yours?

A lot. It was definitely not cheap. I don't remember what it ended up being exactly out of pocket. I think if I had to pay for the entire thing, it would have been around $10k. But I had decent insurance and my parents actually pitched in because of my reason. Only a little bit, though. They offered to pay for the entire thing, but I wouldn't let them. Then I tried to pay them back and they wouldn't accept it. I have an amazing family. My reason for getting them was because my brother had just asked me to be his best man at his wedding, and I actually tried to turn him down because I didn't want to be the only person there who couldn't smile. I didn't want him to remember me standing there looking like I didn't care, or that I wasn't incredibly happy for him.

Like I said, my teeth had a profound affect on my mental health and self-confidence for over 20 years. And I hadn't fully understood just how much until that moment. It was the slap in the face I needed to finally wake up and do something instead of just "dealing with it" like I always had.

And yes it was very expensive and a lot of people less fortunate than myself wouldn't have had that option. Which is why I'm always happy to tell people about it and encourage everyone to do something about it before it gets to that point.

About 3 months of planning and getting molds and such before the surgery. About 6 months from the extraction surgery to the implants being put in.

And, again, I was a pretty extreme case. It shouldn't take that long if you're only getting 1 or 2 teeth replaced with implants.
