8.5/10, saw Threads late last year and honestly think this might be the better movie of the two - though not as visually jarring the beauty of the pre-bombing scenes and sympathetic protagonists made for a much bigger sense of loss as the movie progressed and everything continued to deteriorate. The kind of tasteful animated film that makes me sad the future of adult animation is just gonna be a continuous stream of Big Mouth/Family Guy/Sausage Party type shit.

You know, it would be cool to arrange a CE movie night. watch2gether isn't the best, but it's functional.

Not gonna act like todays media has much better-written kid characters or anything but there was always something so uniquely off about how children were characterized in late 90s/early 00s media to me & Todd really got everything wrong with that era down to a T with this little creep, god almighty lmao

Was more in the mood for a horror flick last night so I watched Dead & Buried (1981), a B-movie that seems to have picked up a cult following over the years not really my cup of tea. Cool poster though

Palindromes tonight. I guess Todd Solondz sunk his entire life savings into it since absolutely no one would give him money for the project so I'm excited to see where this one goes.

It was the first one. My mom wants to rewatch them all so we started with the first one. Might start the second one later.

My soul is humble when I see the way little ones accept their lot.

Magnificent piece of work, its a crying shame Charles Laughton never helmed another project because of the initial reception. The way the first few scenes played out felt kinda clumsy but it hit its stride really quick, this scene was absolutely breathtaking in context:

Its weird they had like a 40something year old woman play Moaning Myrtle in that. Weirder that I somehow thought it was just a normal little girl playing her when I first saw it

I respect what David C was going for here - easily his most mature work, genuinely made me uneasy in a way none of his other projects did despite being comparatively tame with the body horror, last few scenes are definitely gonna stick with me for a while - but it wasnt my favorite movie from him. Letting it stew in my head for a while & revisiting it after a few years might end up changing that, idk

It was ok. The early scenes where the townspeople fall into a mass sleep were more unnerving than the ones with the alien kids.

I watched Double Dragon (1994) live action, which wasn't terrible, honestly. It's got some similarities to maybe Big Trouble In Little China with a big dash of Bill & Ted, and pretty much very similar to any other post-Karate Kid fantasy adventure, if not a cut or two above the usual fare. The supporting cast and villains add to the effect. If you're familiar with the games and cartoons, I wouldn't necessarily recommend going out of your way to watch it... But, should you ever happen across it one day, it is worth a viewing. If the moment arises and you cross paths, sort of thing. Id always been wary of it, but it wasn't god awful by say... Masters of the Universe standards. It wasn't as good as Doom tho either, imo, for comparison. Which, Doom is divisive. I do think Doom was/is better than the Masters of the Universe movie.

Makes a cute couple with Street Fighter

Might have a bit of a Never-ending Story, RoboCop, Tank Girl, Highlander spirit to it

If theres any one horror movie that definited the 80s it might be this one. Cold War paranoia, 50s nostalgia, incredible practical effects, its all there

Outrage and The Last Master are both really good. The former is basically every modern yakuza trope done well, the latter is a very stylized martial arts flick that really wants to do All Of The Things. Gets long in the tooth, but you never get bored.
