I don't get it. There's all this stigma for liking someone for pure attraction's sake, acting on pure attraction, judging someone else for liking attractiveness, needing personality to matter, etc. Why does it matter? We all have a core sexual drive, there's no reason to pretend like we don't. I'm not saying depth doesn't exist, it's totally reasonable to like someone for their personality or how they grew to be attractive, etc. It just seems weird that there's some sort of sexual shame for letting attraction be the forefront, when it really is a factor in how we pick people.

I'm not sure that shallowness, at least as you describe it, is the thing being considered the stigma. Like, most people will readily admit that attractiveness is relevant for sexual reasons.

I should've said not the stigma anymore*, because that was a popular media thing for a while, perhaps most exemplified by the movie Shallow Hal. But it's been long enough with the free(ish) social exchange of the internet that "attraction is important for typical romances" seems to have been the default for quite some time.

I think the issue is that attraction gives favorable bias for things where looks would have no impact on performance.

It's not shallow to care about looks, it's shallow to prioritize those over all else.

It's the outlook usually associated with shallowness. It's not so much prioritizing someone's looks, but looking down on everyone deemed unattractive. That can go as far as not even wanting a casual conversation with said unattractive person.

That's my assumption anyway. I know I have my own shallow preferences, but I'd never ignore or think less of others over that.

Because usually being a shallow person is a whole bunch of negative traits all rolled into one.

They're usually materialistic, care only about physical appearance, super self centered and judgemental and thrive on drama and gossip.

Being shallow is only good if you just want to fuck. It doesnt work if you want a relationship.
