She likes feel good Christian stuff. So... Not much violence, no cursing, no sex, and not scary

She reads the same ass Amish and Christian modern day schlock all the time. I buy her 4 or so books a month from Love Inspired publishing that all amount to the same story. I wanna get her something out of her comfort zone, but something still close enough that she would like it

Surely something like this exists

---
Tennessee's a brother to my sister Carolina where they're gonna bury me. And I ain't ready to go. I'm never ready to go.

There's a book called The Fire Bringer that's all about deer. It's got kinda a Jesus like story where there is a Jesus like deer but the main character isn't that deer. It gets dark at times, but isn't gory or anything.
I remember reading it in high school, it was neat.

It's not like "this deer is a god!" But more "there was a prophecy about a deer that would be born that would one day lead us to a great pasture/promised land." At least I think, it's been like 16 years since I read it.

The Chronicles of Narnia contain quite a lot of religious allegory, but a lot of Christians denounce it as blasphemous because the book contain magic (most of which is a direct gift from the Jesus allegory Aslan, but is perverted by the Witch)

Others don't get to dictate what's normal and what isn't. It's something we decide for ourselves. That's why it's the most important thing to us.

That's the ending of the whole series, not the first book

Imo the first book fulfills the no-nos in the OP well. Plus the author CS Lewis was a practicing Christian, if that counts for anything

To be fair, it's less horrific than it sounds. It's not really described in detail, and they're not "dead", they just end up permanently transported to Narnia, which is a much cooler place than the real world anyhow lol

Brandon Sanderson books have violence, but no hard cursing or sex. The author is Mormon and he's one of my favorites.

I usually recommend starting with Mistborn: The Final Empire. If it might be too nerdy with its detailed magic system, try The Emperor's Soul novella.

Is she happy with her current reading material?

It sounds like you're trying to bond and find some common ground with your grandmother. But getting them to read an entire book that is not really in their wheelhouse is a very tall order, especially from a woman who is that late into her life.

Dont write off the Narnia series. Its a good suggestion. She could start with either The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (the most well known and first written) or The Magicians Nephew (the first chronologically).

What about A Wrinkle in Time?

Tbh, religious books are scary!

Brandon Sanderson is what you need.

I want to say Elantris, but she would think it has an anti-religion theme until it got to the very end.

Someone above recommended the first Mistborn book. Can't really go wrong with that, other than a few graphic and violent scenes sprinkled in here and there.
