Technically they have to be able to be turned off since some states are two party consent when it comes to being filmed.

Mandating the bodycam setup that was proposed would require law changes anyway; it's no problem to also change, or carve out an exception to, the two-party-consent law while doing so. If people are concerned about them being used as a way to gather evidence illegally, then it could additionally be with the qualifier that footage is only released if a complaint is filed against a cop wearing the camera or appearing in the video, and cannot be used for any other purpose.

Oh sure, I'm not arguing that. If it were up to me they would be impossible to turn off and the footage dumped to a third party company. The police would have no access to the footage ever, to make sure that it cannot be accidentally deleted.

Its entirely possible that cop is telling the truth. Ive not seen the video, but Fayetteville is a war zone plagued by drugs, poverty, low education, and a military base full of drunk soldiers. Its the perfect storm of crazy.

Also need to end immunity for cops and force them to register a police license with their state like many other jobs are forced to do. If you lose your cop license then you cant be a cop anywhere in the country.

Based on that article, it seems like the cop is telling the truth and the nurse(?) is saying that the cop didnt have to get out of his car. Which seems like a solid argument if the car wasnt pinned in. The cop could have drove off.

The nurses story in the WRAL article doesnt even make a lot of sense. He was just walking home. So what are we saying? This off duty cop with his wife and daughter in the car just pulled over and shot some dude walking down the street? That seems astronomically unlikely.

Or, he was just walking home when the cops rolled up, told him an unlawful command, and then escalated from there. That version seems astronomically likely.

Okay so believe both witnesses are correct? Because if not, then yes one is lying, which leads to the next discussion of who has cause to lie.

ETA - you talk about posters here being anti cop, but do you believe you are impartial? Given you have said they were justified in contacting an employer for additional punishment, justified in making dramatic statements (You are about to die), justified in altering software to build evidence, etc

I dont think its a case of lying. I think its a case of bad reporting. That WRAL article seems incomplete. This whole story seems incomplete, honestly.

Theres zero chance this off duty cop just pulled over with his wife and daughter in the car and shot some random dude walking home just for the hell of it.

Or just maybe, you guys operate on an entirely false information and make your circle jerk comments. So far, weve had a discussion of body cameras and that he probably unlawful stopped him and shot him somehow

notice how I havent actually defended the situation. Instead, sought the facts and break the situation down. Regardless of what you believe, someone jumping on your windshield and trying to break it..while youre driving, sounds incredibly dangerous and life threatening. Maybe I would just prefer to not die .

For the record, Id be pissed. Those Bosch windshield wiper blades aint cheap. And if you break the arm and spring then that adds up to a couple hundred dollars. Id be tempted to step out and hold the guy there until the cops show up. Fuck putting that on my insurance.

Do you ever "break the story down" and find a cop to be at fault? Because again you always seem to end up finding support for police actions (calling the employer, fudging swatter data, pronouncing statements like "You are about to die", etc)

Ive seen him on prior occasions reprimand the cops that were obviously in the wrong, but I have also seen him defend many cops when the situation isnt entirely clear but CE chose to dogpile on the cop anyway because its a cop

I don't remember a single instance of him reprimanding a cop. Do you remember a specific example? My memory (as I stated) were pretty clear cut cases of abuse where he defended cops actions.
