How would you feel? (More details below)

OK. Ive been playing games with a guy online for 5 years at this point. We grouped up in Overwatch and we have played together since. Ive never met him in real life. He, however, considers me hishedt friend. Whenever he gets married, not only does he want me to come to his wedding but he wants me to be his best man. (That has been put off for much later after his girl broke up with him.) Like I said Ive never met him in real life.

How would you feel about this? I kinda feel awkward about it. Im his best friend, however, even as introverted as I am.. Im probably closer to real life friends. It feels kinda weird to me. Maybe Im looking too much into it.

It's happened to me. I find it incredibly awkward, but I do my best to accept it graciously and make sure the other guy doesn't get self conscious about it.

Not a fun position at all.

That is unfortunate. I guess? Its kinda weird. Since Im very introverted, its better to have friends far away as an excuse not to do stuff together all the time. However, that is easy to say when you have some friends close to home.

Yea I dont know how to respond at all. Its even worse when he says he loves me but in an obvious brotherly way. I dont ever say it back because its extremely awkward and sometimes he will call me out by saying say it back. He doesnt mean anything serious when he says to say it back but its super awkward. I tend to just clam up.

I've met people online who I consider family, that's how close we are. When you play online with the same people for over a year almost daily, you become more than just friends.

I know someone from PSO2 that became pretty much infatuated with me within 15 minutes of talking to me, wanting us to be sisters just because our characters were female and wanting our outfits to match, and having an almost incestuous vibe about the whole sister thing let alone being their "best friend".

Sheeesh. I would know how to handle that. I would probably just do the ghost thing and disappear. No way I could handle a person like that

I guess I'd be honored, but it'd also be awkward since I don't think I'd ever call anyone I only know online my best friend.

I've never gotten that close with someone online, so for now, I'd say awkward. In the future, who knows.

Sounds like the levels of friendship here are lopsided.

There's nothing wrong with having good friends online. There is something wrong when the guy you think is your best friend makes a topic like this. I'll keep it real too, I was in a similar situation years back when I was about 16, and I let that shit die cause I was not nearly that tight with dude, plus he was on some weirdo type of time

I don't know how tight you feel you are with this guy - not even sure what the right answer for you is. 5 years of consistent gaming is a long time though, I wouldn't say that's a red flag...some guys are just hard up for friends these days, and it's easier to connect through games. But if you're not feeling it, establish some boundaries and shit, something like you prefer to keep your online and real life separate. Nothing wrong with that, and that's something he should be able to respect.
