Temporarily while you work towards getting a new job and/or house, yes.

If youre over 21 and live with them permanently with no plans to create your own independent income and/or shelter, youre a failure.

Or you can just get a minimum wage job and get roommates and complain about how life is so unfair on the Internet.

Nope, the point of college is getting a degree so you can get a job to support yourself. Often just having a high school diploma is good enough to do that. So if youve either completed those things or chose not to and still mooch off your parents indefinitely, youre a failure.

Youre not supposed to make a career out of working at McDonalds, its supposed to be your first work experience so you can build yourself up to better and better jobs.

I started at a sandwich shop making $7 an hour and 7 jobs and 4 promotions later am now am in an office job making $30 an hour. I only have a high school diploma. Theres no secret sauce, you just build a good resume and never stop job hunting until you find one you like enough that pays enough to live comfortably.

Dont get me wrong, if your parents WANT you to stay at home and they say theyll pay for your entire life until they die or you do AND you already have a meal ticket lined up after they die, congratulations, youve won life. You straight up cucked existence and have found a magical cheat code.

But if theyre expecting you to leave and you havent after 21, youre a failure.

No. I'd rather work at job that pays me like shit so then I can complain about how life is so unfair to me. About capitalism, about not able to afford rent so I have to get roommates, about living in poverty and in turn I can shit on the American system.

Its not a personal standard though, its literally based on the age one is when they finish college. I didnt just throw age 21 out there.

We literally have a million homeless people and another million in jails & prisons. In some U.S. states 1% of the adult population is jailed or imprisoned at any given time. The reason COVID is destroying the U.S. labor market is because millions of U.S. adults had fragile jobs or living situations that collapsed when one person in their job or home life became disabled.

In short, Americans CAN NOT afford to live any sort of reasonable standard of life.

Society wouldnt function if there were no one doing a lot of the lowest paying jobs. We just need higher wages, the capitalists have been tipping the scale with an anvil for several decades.

He's completely wrong. This isn't the 1970s anymore. People can't afford to move out when they turn 18. The majority of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. The only people who say stupid shit like that are edgy teenagers who have never had a job or had to pay for anything in their life. They completely ignore the reality of the modern world.

When I have kids they can stay as long as they want. Having kids isn't an 18 year commitment, it's a lifelong one, and you're the one that forced life on them so you should absolutely do everything you can as a parent to make sure that at the end of the day, they know they can always rely on you. It might even pay off when you're too old to take care of yourself! Alternatively, you can increase the odds of you ending up in a group home lol

My parents will probably be practically begging for me to move back in w/ them in about ten years from now, when they're on the edge of having to go into a retirement home. But by then I should be doing pretty damn well in terms of money. Been going through the "struggle" years recently. All I can say is that apartment rent is a scam, but the trade-off of not having to live with your parents is unfortunately largely worth it from a mental wellness standpoint.

Provided you are helping in some capacity that the parents are satisfied with I feel the best set up is to stay with family till you are ready to start your own. If everyone is gainfully employed then everyone is saving money.

The only thing that irritates me is I'm the bread winner. Until very recently my mom hasn't been able to help out financially at all but she still sometimes acts like she gets to be in charge. Like for example she keeps pestering me that she wants to and is gonna rearrange the living room. I'm the only one who uses it and I like it how it is. Only reason it hasn't happened is cause I just kinda ignore her and she's expecting me to do the heavy lifting.
