Ok, now that he's Warned, let's get back to the topic at hand.

One thing I'll agree on is that TFS does seem to be struggling to find their new place after ending DBZA. Their other projects don't feel like they're quite as addictive or unique, although I will admit that I like their gaming content and hope they do more Nuzlockes in the future -- preferably not in the form of a stream, but that's just my personal preference.

I had that same feeling too. I think it was around the Frieza fight they got too serious and not funny enough
In fairness, that's also where DBZ had a huge tonal shift and started to focus less on the comedic aspects of the show. Sure, you still had moments like Goku and Piccolo learning to drive, but most episodes became more serious in tone and content.

Until Buu, anyway.

We're still talking about TFS's parody right?

Nah, base DBZ had a tonal shift around the time of the Goku vs. Frieza fight as well. There were still moments of comedy, but the new characters introduced weren't as silly in design or attitude (except for Mr. Satan, of course), and the overall story of the Android/Cell saga was pretty serious and dark.

Sure, Namek was also serious and dark, but it also had The Ginyu Force.

In general, though, Z was more serious than pre-Z Dragon Ball anyway. But the Android/Cell saga was easily the darkest the show ever got, and the Buu saga after it kind of slid back more towards incorporating comedy again.

Except for the part where Spopovich just absolutely brutalized the shit out of Videl. THAT was uncomfortable to watch.
