Took mine for an oil change only to be brought down and shown that fluids are leaking everywhere under the engine. Could be oil, could be transmission fluid, could be coolant. idfk, I gotta put cardboard w/ paper towel underneath it to see what color it is and then go and take it to an auto shop. The weird thing is the oil change guy said the dipstick was reading full, but I never put any oil in myself and my dashboard indicator says it's at 47%.

Gonna probably cost 200 dollars or more just to have it looked at, let alone fixed.

Fucking car ownership sucks. I live in rural WI so I can't take public transit anywhere either.

Did you take it to Jiffy Lube or something. It is always worth it to find a good mechanic. I finally found one I trust.

That's the remaining life of the oil. Depending on the car it'll just measure mileage, while more sophisticated systems will compare miles to engine hours, throttle, outside temp, etc.

For my Challenger I'm on a strict 5k mile or 6 month schedule for my synthetic oil. Far as leaks go the cardboard idea is good, but doesn't beat a good old fashioned peek under the skirt to see what and where it's costing you money.

I took it to a Pennzoil nearby. Didn't have any issues with the last service they did, and this seems to be a recent issue since I've never seen an oil leak under where I park.

Always buy new

open your hood, grab the dipstick and check the oil levels, and then check your fluid levels on every other one. If you need to, go to a damn meineke and let them do it and figure it out.

Take pictures of everything and post on a subreddit

Basic auto repair is something that should be mandatory in every school. Not so you can fix it yourself but so you know when you're getting fucked by the rip off mechanic

The problem with that, is that cars built since roughly 1985 are a convoluted mass of sensors and pulleys that are impossible to actually get to.

Dont go to a mainstream name brand shop. Theyll always try to squeeze you. They gotta keep all their people well paid.

It sounds like you went to a shitty mechanic, and lack the funds to repair your vehicle.

One thing about owning a car is to regularly have it serviced so you can catch things before they go wrong and to follow the owners manual on when things need to be replaced.

yeah go to another mechanic and not the dealer unless you 100% have to.

also what car is it, so i know to avoid it when buying a car lmao.

so i've known shit mechanics over the years and a common scam is to squirt oil around and show the customer to justify a higher bill...
