Thinking about picking All Japan and seeing if I can get a working agreement with the WWF. Kobashi vs HBK sounds amazing

I feel like everyone here has a time machine.

I'm playing a pro wrestling booking simulator called Total Extreme Wrestling 2020. The Mod/Datebase I'm playing starts in January 1998, right after Sting wins the WCW Championship from Hogan at that infamous Starcade with the debut of Bret Hart

I actually might go into Inoki's MMA dream in New Japan and get Angle, Brock, Don Frye, and a couple others.

i started playing this a month or so ago. So far I've just been playing the 2020 Cornellverse to understand teh game mechanics and was just looking at mods. I was thinking 1970, 1983, 1984, or 1985 would be fun. Have you done any of those mods?

I did an 80's mod back on TEW 2016, and enjoyed it. I started with Portland Wrestling and built it up for about 3 years, but I still had to close it down. Fucking Hulkamania, lol

I've scratched my original plan and I'm going to make a Super Puro company by closing down all the other Japanese promotions and using all of their top talent. Well, at least shut down All Japan and steal some of their roster, and then fire some of the New Japan roster.

I am playing as Tommy Vercetti, owner of Jim Crocket Promotions in the Risky Business (1985) mod. He is going to use underhanded tactics to try to sabotage WWF. Our opening move is to put in an anonymous tip to their sponsors. This won't be done often, don't want to make it obvious. Just one or two of these a year.

My starting storylines are Magnum TA vs Wahoo McDaniel and some storyline about Jimmy Valiant (the boogiewoogie man) being attacked and Billy Graham, Paul Jones and the Barbarian.

Goal is to build cash, put on good wrasslin, make WWF look bad, and steal the local talent before Vince.

Also we just resigned from the NWA. We aren't going to attack them but need to be able to run their territories.

Looking to sign Arn Anderson, Randy Savage, and get Steamboat under an exclusive written contract.

I dont understand wrestling promotions and cross events and stuff. Wrestling is acting and choreography, right? So how can someone have a good or bad wrestling 'career' in terms of wins or losses if there's literally a script of how they're gonna do? Not trying to make a 'lol wrestling is fake' post, I'm just genuinely confused about how the business and politics work

Can't say my first show was great. Getting to know my crew. I can see that obviously the Funks still have more in the tank left than I expected. I am thinking The Funks vs. The Horsemen as my main event for the year. Flair and Ole are face now but Tully is heel. The Funks are heels. Get some other brawling cowboys for them to team up with.

As a followup to my other posts, in these sim games is wrestling actually real or is it a sim of the business aspect?

@Doe

In the WWE W/L don't really matter too much in the scale of someone's entire career. For example, Hulk Hogan. He hardly ever got beat, so when he did, it was a big deal. The Undertaker went undefeated at WrestleMania for over 20 years. That wasn't really a storyline thing until it got to around 15 wins or so. After it went over 20, fans just expected it to never end. But then Brock beat him and it was a huge shock. Like someone beating One Punch Man. He hasn't be beat yet, right? Well let's say One Punch man goes on for 20 year, never losing, and then all of the sudden, out of nowhere, someone beats him.

But those are the big cases of where Wins/Loses matter

World Championships, like the WWE Heaveweight Championship matters because it shows that the company is behind you, and thinks that you can draw in a lot of money. If you're in that position, it's a big deal because it's like being the Employee of the Month at work. It's shows that you're up there with the top people in the company

The IC Championship is usually for the really great workers. The ones that may not have the starpower of someone like The Rock, because they simply not that charismatic, but when they're in the ring they make you get really invested with the crisp looking moves, and "laying it it," meaning hitting them really f'n hard to make it sound really loud. These are things like chops, shin kicks, and headbutts

Here, watch this match. It's a short, but good one -

Build up to the match -

Shibata, the non-bald one, left New Japan Pro Wrestling to try and become an MMA fighter for real. He didn't do so well, and after a few years, he came back to Pro Wrestling. Ishii, the bald one, hates Shibata because he left New Japan to do this when New Japan needed him the most. This is both REAL and Storyline. Shibata really did fuck over New Japan when he left because New Japan was losing out on a lot of money during this time because of how popular MMA was getting over there with PRIDE. However, nobody actually hates Shibata.

Awesome match. I hope you check it out -

It's just like any other pro wrestling, but you're writing all the storylines, all the promos, ect. You're up against rival promotions that are trying to sign the fire agents and stuff. It's like any Football manger where you're the manager of a football team.

Random shit happens like Hulk Hogan getting pulled over for dunk driving and you, as his boss, need to handle it. Do you fire him? Fine him? Do nothing? Hulk Hogan is a big name, what if you piss him off?

People die in crashes, get into fights, run backstage poker tournaments. And the mods we're playing take all the real friendships and hatefulness into account. There are really some wrestlers that hate other ones, and that's into these as well. Well, the good ones will have them all.

Oh dang, Terry Funk feels he has outgrown Jim Crocket Promotions. He might be pissed that I didn't fire Ole Anderson when Ole got into a fight with Dory.

Damn. I am going to need to elevate Macho Man to my main event heel quicker than I expected.

I am trying to negotiate with Harley Race now but he's playing hardball.

After an intensive bidding war I got Jake Roberts signed. Still in negotiations with Harley Race. I am just asking him for tv shows and events, he's still not biting on a written non-exclusive 3 year.

I've had to replace Dave Crocket on booking with Dennis Coraluzzo so now he and JJ Dillon have the book.

I'm losing about $5k a show right now.

I sometimes make bad mistakes still. I mean to have Randy Savage taunt Ricky Steamboat. Instead I had Randy Anderson, currently my Jr. referee, taunt Ricky Steamboat. The crowd was not amused, killed the show. And had Ole Anderson get injured by Tully Blanchard in what was supposed to be a feud ending on Bash at the Beach with a "can the 4 horsemen contain both?" but now this might take me through Starrcade.

Earlier in the night Ric Flair wrecked Magnun TA's rental car and I fined Ric for that since he wasn't paying back Magnum. But that killed my locker room morale.

Fuck JCP is having a hard time.

but yeah, I played liked 3 years as Mid Atlantics booker, owned by Sam Keith. Then did a year as the smallest default promotion. Then did a years as like the 4th largest Japanese promotion.

the architect vs Bradley blaze was my money match for MAW.

I'm losing too much money with JCP right now. I am starting another game with WCCW and taking over the von erich clan. They have a bunch of low costs per show on handshake deals. So hoping to get decent cash on hand and then lock some of these guys down.

Just edit the Database and make the company you're going to pick owns the TV Station, lol

This is 1985, not 1988! Or 89, whatever.

WCCW is making money hand over fist though. Like +25k / show.

I've signed Stan Lane (to have the 3 man midnight express) and Buddy Roberts to fill out the freebirds. Add in the Von Erich's and my 3-man main event heels of Jake Roberts, Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez and I have 4 legit 3-man teams.

And as soon as I say that I have WWF trying to sign Michael Hayes to a monthly deal.

Always wanted to try one of these, but it might be too much to keep track of for me. The potential for all the "what ifs?" and history being changed is interesting to me. Love how they cover the territories era too. That's my main wrestling interests nowadays.

Its surprisingly not bad keeping track of it all. You have a field for just about everything, so as long as you routinely check out each field, you're good. I do wish each field had its own note pad. Like you have a top level note pad to keep track of stuff, and some areas have stuff you can write, but I want every field to have note pads to keep track of your plans.

What @Norman_Smiley said. It's only overwhelming if you're trying to do the WWF and it's huge roster, all the extra shows, and sponsorships. Little things like ECW, ROH, WCCW, are all smaller, so easier to work with
