Which would you rather work?

If it wasn't for the fact this is at the commissary, I'd say this feels like a scam

What if it was a place that was offering the same pay and benefits options but at a place you'd want to work at

Fuck that shit place not providing medical for part time. The lower paying full time would benefit you more unless you have insurance already

I'd go with the medical insurance, I'm on a shit ton of pills to begin with. Deciding to switch to a job with benefits saved me. I've been on LTD for over 2 years now and it's allowed me to at least keep my independence and hopefully will cover a good chunk of my migraine treatments to help me get better and back to work.

Depending on how many hours per week they give part time employees, you'd probably make more working the full time position.

Full time would probably be the better deal if this is your only job. In most cases, you would be guaranteed consistent full time hours each week. Part time would not be guaranteed a certain number of hours and they wouldn't get medical benefits. Sure, $16 hours is better than $13.50, but if you're only given 10 or 20 hours a week and have to supplement your income elsewhere and be flexible, it's not really that great at all.

Probably a high deductible plan too, but what can we do about it...its the American way. That said...16.50 for a part time if its low stress its not bad at all. For college students and grown ups looking for side cash. Only if I get to decide my hours.

Take the part time.

Out perform everyone, and I'll get those 40 hours @ $16/hour guaranteed.

A quick calc at 2080 hours tells me that you make $5,200 more gross at part time. Health insurance will cost more than that.

There has to be some sort of threshold for when you pay your employees' health insurance. Surely you wouldn't expect a company to pay heath insurance for someone who works 4 hours a week. It makes sense to set that threshold at the full time level.

i wouldnt expect a company to pay health insurance at all. it should be paid for with taxes
but since your state of affairs right now is that companies pay for employees health insurance, then yes i would expect them to pay for someones health insurance even if they only worked 4 hours a week. they are still an employee. giving employers a loophole (part timers dont get insurance) perpetuates the shit ass casual/shift work culture.

That PT rate would be a great job for a High School or College kid still going to school full time.

Put in 15-20 hours a week, probably clear around $200 or so after taxes.

Throw $30 of it in your gas tank, $100 in the bank, and have $70 in pocket money for the week.

Now, for an adult actually looking for a job that pays a living wage? No thank you.
