My brother has been looking for a particular bottle of whiskey. Its a limited edition that launched a few weeks ago and has been sold out. Hes in Canada and doesnt get it there but finally found one in stock at a local store by me. He asked me to get it and hed pay me back so I placed an online order for delivery. I didnt realize they outsourced to doordash.

Yesterday I watched the tracker when it was out for delivery and was waiting by the door but never heard a knock or anything. Checked the tracker and the dasher claimed they couldnt deliver it to me. No call or text to attempt to reach me. Very odd.

I called the store and they set aside another bottle they had and I went to pick it up today. I asked them about it and they said the dasher never returned with the bottle and they have to file a complaint now. They apologized for not sealing it in the first place so the driver wouldnt have seen what it was.

I was already planning on canceling doordash next month when my free dashpass expires but Im going to do it now. If I had known they outsourced to them I would have just gone to pick it up. Its just hard to do with an 8 month old. Doordash has been really terrible lately with missing items, delivery at the wrong door, super late, etc. This takes the cake.

You should file a complaint too.

I mean, Im sure the store doing it should be good enough, but I wouldnt count on them doing it because theyre likely busy with other things.

But fuck that DD driver.

I honestly thought it was going to be a store employee that would deliver it. There was no indication it was DD when I placed the order. But when I went to pick it up, the employee went on a rant about how much they hate DD and wish they could deliver it themselves, but it requires some specific certification. So the store outsources

they probably came to the conclusion that they were entitled to that bottle as a tip

Had a similar issue with Postmates in November. The delivery driver pulled into my apartment complex, drove for about a minute, according to the tracker was right outside and I walked outside to meet them and do a handoff after I saw an idling grey van which was what the app described their car as. I was getting my slip on shoes on and suddenly their vehicle drove off. It was the only grey van on the road and they never got out of the car. "Could not deliver" message came immediately after. Was some serious bullshit.

A limited edition Johnny Walker blue label. It was a $200 bottle. I guess there are a lot of people who collect that crap. It was sold out immediately and my brother was looking almost every day trying to find a store with it. He doesnt even drink them. Just puts them on his shelf. I think its weird personally lol

will never understand why people rely so heavily on delivery. like it's bad enough to worry about it for a god damn order of sushi, let alone an expensive bottle of harder to find liquor

Yeah, apparently even local liquor stores are getting in on that. My sister told me this, and I was like... It probably takes longer for the DoorDash to deliver it as opposed to you just going there and getting it yourself. Cheaper, too.

Damn that sucks. Yeah I got the same could not deliver crap. I also heard a lot of drivers will use their family members SS to create DD accounts and such. So I guess they just dont give a shit about stealing.

In NY you can't sell any gift set for more money than the original bottle.

Also, don't tell him Blanton's.
They have an advertising gimmick that is diabolical.

I have an 8 month old and just moved to a new house. Ive been so busy unpacking and caring for her. Its been exhausting. And I didnt know when Id be able to go to the store to get it and didnt want to risk missing it, so I placed it for delivery hoping to secure it that way. Boy was I wrong lol

Yeah. I use Postmates but like. Gods. Probably the biggest red flag delivery person I've reported was obviously homeless, and on top of being gross looking in general their hands were so dingy that when he handed me the drink I noticed that it had a gross dirty film on it because the moisture on it was all it took to loosen some of the caked on grime on his hands. I ended up tossing the drink because that was horrifying. I know he was trying to make money but that's fucking food, that's how you get people sick or worse.

While it's still suspect, undeliverable doesn't always mean they have to return it. Door Dash just takes the loss and tells them to dispose of it. Even if it's hundreds of dollars.

This is true. For safety you are supposed to put an 8 month old in the back seat, preferably on the floor.

So wouldnt that just encourage drivers to pretend they couldnt deliver the order so they can take it? I was waiting by the door and never heard anything. Never received a call from the driver or anything. And Id understand not returning food, but this was a liquor bottle.

I didn't even know doordash could deliver booze. Might be a state by state thing. My state had a "no booze sellong on sundays" bullfuck rule that wqsn't foxed until I was an adult so I wouldn't be surprised if we are just behind with stuff like this.

Yes I am and yes it is.

Convenience/grocery liquor sales are locality-based too. The 1 grocery store in my city that sells liquor is the furthest one from me and the closest convenience store that sells just beer/wine is far too >_< (and it is 24 hr but can't will indeed deny beer/wine sales after 11)

Had a driver to do that too. Followed them on GPS just turn around and go in like the worst neighborhood and into his house lol.

Yeah, that Johnny Walker Blue is renowned even in casual whiskey circles as being both quite expensive/refined and easy to sip on, so if that driver knew much about whiskey, they just decided to err on the dark side of human nature that time.

What state? Mass?
In NY we can sell Wine and Spirits but basically not anything else.
Everything has to be at least 1% alcohol.You can't even sell beer.

Even though the liquor store outsourced the delivery, most definitely go ahead and try complaining directly to DD. At a minimum, between the store complaining and you complaining, hopefully the bad driver will get deactivated right quick.

I know some folks here on CE complain about drivers scamming the system, complaining about being underpaid, etc, but in all honesty DoorDash only has itself to blame for allowing shit like this to happen. They cast a wide net out to allow for any and all drivers with super low minimum requirements to onboard, then try to pay the bare minimum and shift the burden of payment onto customers via tips. The decent drivers who know better cherry pick the hell out of orders and/or multi app with other services, or get fed up with DDs pay and stop driving altogether. Then all that leaves are the lowest of the low caliber drivers that end up stealing.

Sorry it happened to you. There are plenty of decent drivers, but so so many bad ones that it ends up giving everyone a bad rap.

If anything, they should have a contact us thing and I would put what I can. The store you ordered from, any order # you have with them, and the like. And make it obvious that it was the driver who fucked up, not the store.

I didnt think about the fact that you actually didnt put it in through their app/service, but worst comes to worst, theyll just say have the store take care of it.

Again, sorry you had to deal with that and you had to (and possibly have to as well) take extra steps to get your stuff. People can be assholes.
