It handled the family drama/pressure plot honestly way better than Coco did IMO.

And We Don't Talk About Bruno is ridiculously catchy, holy shit.

That and Surface Pressure were for sure the standout songs IMO.

I've been looking forward to watching it, and my brother gifted me Disney+ for Christmas, so I'll definitely be checking it out.

It's a lot of fun; kinda a slow burn by Disney's usual animated film standard, but I liked that about it TBH. And it has some great music.

I actually liked that there was no villain but my issue was that it felt like the adventure was about to begin then just didn't.

Also, i didnt like that the whole movie was pretty much in the house. Overall i did enjoy the movie but it definitely isnt near the top of disney movies

The trailer lies. The only part that even shows a battle ends up not even happening and is just in someone's imagination during a song

I thought it was boring and the characters were jerks to each other for no reason. I don't know why the main girl helped them. I would have just left home and abandoned them to their fate

the only one who is really a jerk to her is her sister and thats sibling rivarly and its shown that they love each other despite not getting along

the grandma too. The movie would have ended like 30 minutes early if not for her.

the grandma is just obsessed with using everyones gifts to help the community because she thinks they need to earn the miracle they got and is blind to how she is hurting her family

she is never malicious to mirabel she is just a bit more dismissive of her because of her lack of gift and the grandma not realizing she is doing that is a major plot point in the movie itself so its something that is acknowledged so i would hardly call it a flaw as its not something brushed aside

Yeah the only "bad" family members was Abuela and Isabella and I use the word "bad" very loosely because that was the point of the film. Abuela was ultimately the main reason the "magic" was fading away because she was putting so much pressure on her family members using their gifts to serve others without taking into account what real effects it had on her family members. I think the big disconnect that some people have with this film is the US mentality over other country mentality. It's also very common among the Spanish and Asian communities to not talk about your problems and just pretend that everything is normal because we have a very "collectivist" way of thinking. You don't want to be a burden, you want to be productive to prove your worth. You want to show appreciation for your family for all they've done for you. One person's success is everyone in the family's success. I love that this movie didn't say that the "collectivist" way of thinking was wrong but rather there needs to be a good balance of sharing and thinking about others.

ending made me kinda sad since I'm not close to anyone in my family anymore, lol.

Thought it was pretty good. The music was very obviously Lin-Manuel Mirandan, but it definitely had some bops.

weird movie but then again i never expected a family drama centered around a single location.
