There is growing outrage in Canada's 3 biggest provinces that have ordered to shut down nightclubs, bars and GYMS once again as owners and customers feel the pinch of being left behind in provincial health orders because of ravaging COVID-19 spreaing in the community.

Some however are defying the orders and remain open where they face massive fines of up to 5000 if they do so.

BC, Ontario and Quebec have ordered these businesses to close because of rapid transmission from these sites but many believe they are being singled out and are outraged that they still allow malls to open where people go shoulder to shoulder to shop and restaurants to have 50% capacity.

Nightclub and bar owners are angered over the closure and had to cancel thousands of party goers after the announcement and don't know how they will survive after the new years

COVID-19 cases have risen dramatically in the last few weeks with Ontario and Quebec hitting 10,000 a day and BC at a record 2500 as Omicron is hitting the country hard.

Unlike the United States, they are taking a different approach while having few restrictions and most places are still wide open after Joe Biden wishes everyone to have a merry christmas with large family gatherings.

Canadians however are asked to limit guests to 6-10 people and must be fully vaccinated only leaving many to feel disappointed, anger and confused.

Gym owners especially are angered over the closures who say many of their clientele come in to relieve stress and say it's deemed essential they use their services for mental health and think governments don't see that. One gym who is defying the orders, Darren Maywood in BC says they've done everything possible to keep their facilities clean and safe to use requiring masks and vaccinations only and none of their members have gotten COVID-19 from their business.

BC's Doctor Bonnie Henry, who was regarded as one of the most respected doctors in the world understands that these people are upset but says in their modelling shows that transmission runs high these businesses. She has received numerous death threats since the announcement

Despite all these concerns, the closures remain until at least January 18 to January 31 depending how the cases go after new years.

restaurants and malls are somewhat essential. gyms not so much (no offense to anyone on this site).

How can you say health is not essential. Malls are more important than the gym really?

Not too mention movie theaters. Wtf is that?

Gyms being closed isnt really the issue its the they are being forced to close when you can still go watch a junior hockey game with 2500 other people or go to a theater etc etc.

But they kept churches open. My mom attended last night in QC even when my sister kept begging her not to. Sigh. At least they checked everyones vaccine cards before allowing them in and everyone had a mask. Im hoping it will be ok for her

Yea I'm gonna need some elaboration on this.

Yeah, I'm kinda at the point where I'm over those kinds of restrictions.

Have the vaccine. Make it mandatory for everyone who's medically able to receive it, even, I'm not going to oppose that. Mandate measures that help reduce spread without significantly interfering in day-to-day life, such as wearing masks in places where it's practical and effective to do so.

It's one thing to use lockdown or semi-lockdown restrictions to buy time while waiting on a vaccine to blunt the worst of the outcomes; but it's just not reasonable to expect people to live under them long-term. It's only going to mean that the point at which people can't be bothered doing anything about it anymore, comes sooner.

Why shut down the fucking economy like this

Just enforce vaccine mandates and mask wearing. Enough of this shut down shit, especially the half assed kind

Should leave gyms open with capacity limits. My gym is at 50%. Everyone is so far away and walks around with mask on
