his point is only big businesses can afford to make it in the city because of how the local gov't allowed realestate prices to go out of control. He does these videos from time to time showing the tons of empty venues that have stayed empty for years because of how bad things have gotten. Hell, his old store has been empty ever since he moved out of it to another one almost 2 years ago.

Sure it's not a big deal for corporations like Apple and Bank of America that can afford to take the loss, but for small and medium sized businesses, operating in NYC is almost a no-go. Do you really want a reality where only big multinational corporations are the only ones who can afford to do business? Cause that's where thing have been headed.

Ive never understood this. If nobody is renting why not lower the price? Its can be good to pay property taxes on property that isnt going to use.

lol no one is going to open a new small business in NYC any time soon if they're just going to get shut down again because of another virus panic. my wild prediction is this will continue for a few years, and it will bring its own set of problems, and the NYC authorities will start putting on a dog and pony show trying to invite people back to the city after decades of assuming that they were always and forever the center of the known universe...

There's supposedly some sort of shell game where un-leased space can be written off as a "loss" or something.

Also, there's several floors above the "Retail space Available" that's probably pulling in rent.

I've seen new restaurants and stores open up just within the last few weeks

The advantages that NYC offered for people had already basically evaporated in the last couple of years anyway. Outside of being in finances or real estate, I don't know why you'd look to there as being a career destination.

Rising crime, mask mandates even if you're vaxxed, vax passports, lockdowns, high cost of living to basically live in a closet... yeah... doesn't sound like a place I'd want to be.

Hopefully it gets shittier again so the rent prices drop down and all of us natives in NJ and PA can move back in lel

I haven't been there in 20+ years and I can't remember if more stores were open during the Rudy years...
It sure seemed to be a busy place but most of my experience was in the midtown area.

None of you grew up in NYC in the 80's, and it's shows.
