go back to lockdowns like in early 2020. If we really want to beat this thing asap, it's the only way.

Its really not at all feasible. The government has proven it cannot support the people. There are way too many explicit necessary jobs that will still hold and spread infection regardless, so ultimately he would likely slow the total number of cases but it would just go back to how it was after. And lastly, there are too many people who will be against it to the point that it would be basically ineffective anyway.

Lol more lockdowns isnt the answer. Over 70% of the deaths from covid are with obese and overweight people.

its already been proven that more in shape people can beat it easier.

if we lockdown how about we force everyone to run 5 miles a week.

It doesn't matter how many people get vaccinated, in the context of the goal of "wipe the virus out". I feel the need to point out and bold that part because I am not remotely trying to say it doesn't matter at all.

Vaccination with the current vaccines will slow the spread, quite significantly so, but not stop it altogether. Definitely can't rule out a future one being more effective, but the current ones do not prevent transmission enough for even a 100% vaccination rate to eliminate the virus. They will also do a great job at keeping you out of hospital, meaning that bed and those nurses are available for someone who couldn't get vaccinated, or someone with a non-covid illness, instead of a person who wouldn't have ended up there had they gotten vaccinated.

With that being said, lockdowns just aren't feasible to keep doing except as an absolute last resort to arrest rising case numbers. You would need months of lockdown, possibly even years, to get rid of the virus altogether. At this point, we have to accept that this virus is here to stay - but until it reaches the point where it's just another harmless cold virus (which is likely to be it's long term fate, but that could easily be 10+ years away), keep up to date with vaccinations and take precautions that don't overly interfere with life (such as mask-wearing).

That kinda stuff makes me mad. The reason I got covid last year is because my washer/dryer was broken and the guy they sent out to fix it through the extended warranty was sick. He waited until he was in my utility room to start coughing, sneezing, and blowing his nose. Bastard.

I was sick for about 30 freaking days.

this. we're in a pandemic of the unvaccinated. if these people want to be dumb and risk their lives over a silly political principle, that's fine. im vaxed and boosted so if i get covid it'll most likely be a bad cold. i'm fine with this.

I think covid can still mutate plenty inside of vaccinated people?

anyways an actual vaccine should be coming out shortly

Lockdowns seems like a short term solution at this point.

This virus is worldwide, its not going away any time soon, especially for an international hub like the United States. Even countries like New Zealand who have had very strict measures put in place and at times have reached zero cases still have been experiencing outbreaks.

Lockdowns make sense to help bring down the number of cases and make things more manageable, but I dont think its a solution at this point. Youd have to get the whole world on board to try and snuff it out that way, which would never happen.

No, the reason why everyone is testing positive is because theres a new variant thats resistant to current vaccines and is exponentially more transmissible.

everyone is bound to get omicron

Vaccines never hold to whatever standard you're pretending to hold them up to. Yet they work when everyone actually gets vaccinated.

Even if you shut down an entire country some bloke traveling in will eventually just pass who knows what around. Unless theres a conceivable plan where the entire developed world can stay in isolation for two weeks, its never going away.

lockdowns aren't necessary if all people would follow the safety standards and keep the hygiene.
but we're talking about a country where people refused to be vaccinated and wearing mask, so we're fucked anyway.

Had a conversation yesterday with someone who said that Omikron came from an HIV positive person because their immune system is shit.

Id say that in someone with a failing immune system, wouldnt the virus have to do fuck all to just roam freely throughout the body?

Would make more sense to mutate in those who are vaccinated?

I dunno, Im an IT guy not a microbiologist lol.

another IT guy here weighing in with his medical expertise

im not sure if immunocompromised means "immune system does not work at all its completely shut down". so maybe the body is trying to put up a fight, just failing miserably. but enough of a fight that the virus mutates in response
