Been rewatching on Peacock (sucks that the first 3/5 of it isn't on there, I'll get that box set one day), and it's just amazing how much this completely embarases all the modern crime shows my parents watch day in and day out.

Is there anything else in recent history that's got the same vibe as it or Stabler Era SVU did?

As a potential clarification, having an overarching narrative from episode to episode is a pretty big disqualified. I'm not saying I'm looking for something without ANY canonicity from episode to episode, but episodic is the name of the game. No season long arcs about whether two cops are gonna make their relationship work, or how one of the lawyers is being blackmailed.

I always felt the Practice had the same tonality as Law and Order, but I preferred the writing on The Practice. Over time it became more and more serialized, and oftentimes there are two or three episode arcs, but generally speaking it was pretty episodic. The Practice comes from the perspective of a struggling law firm, and the there's always a level of disrespect shown to the titular firm by the greater Boston area - whether it be prosecutors, judges, what-have-you. A lot of times they scrape by on technicalities in their ethical conundrums, but mostly, I think it raises the same moral concerns L&O does, in that same way where they let a question linger at the end of the episode for you to mull over as the credits roll.

Honestly I'm fine with old too, I just assumed I would have heard about it if that was the case.

Was just trying to avoid anyone saying Homicide, since I already knew that one.

Just found out that NBC ordered season 21 of Law & Order which starts in February and still has Sam Watterson as Jack McCoy.

WTF??

Other than the L&O spin-offs and the Chicago trio NBC is really lacking in successful scripted primetime shows. When I saw they were bringing it back I was 0% surprised.
