They didnt keep cutting away to Hela on Asgard. All we needed was the first scene of her confronting Thor/Loki and going through the bifrost gateway, then the final act when Thor returns to Asgard and sees it in ruins.

The constant cutaways to her chilling in Asgard and murdering everyone always annoyed me because it kills the momentum and adds nothing to the story.

Know what I mean?

Part of why I didn't care for it is because half the movie with Helga just seemed like a giant waste of time.

They could have just shown Thor after having beaten her and the movie could have been 30 seconds long. Seeing what happened adds nothing!

I agree.

But when you pay for Cate Blanchett, you need to make use of her.

I think we lose the character moments of the guy with Des and Troy if we never go back.

And its not Thor 3s fault Thor 1 and 2 failed to build emotional attachment to the other characters who died.

Man, I need to watch it again. Thor's sister (Blanchett) was the villain in the same movie where he spent most of the time in an intergalactic gladiator arena? For some reason I was thinking those were two different movies...

Why?

He stood alone at Gjallerbru.

And that answer is enough.

It was necessary because we learned more about her past and how their dad tried to erase her history. It also gave us The Executioner and let him have a redemption arc. Plus cutting back to Asgard let us see the full extent of her power and lets us know how dire the situation was, which made it feel all the more satisfying when Thor finally arrived and caused Ragnarok

Yeah, thats the only reason that makes sense. And they had to show off that awesome costume design as much as possible.

Cate Blanchett was hot as hell (except for the times she had that head piece on) in that movie so I'm cool with it

Yeah I think I had read at one point that Cate Blanchett is their highest paid single film appearance.

also agreed her costume design was sick.

"He's a friend from work" is one of the best one liners in MCU, they couldn't afford to keep it out of the trailers. Not to mention there was little faith in Thor movies at the time

Agreed with this, Asgard blowing up was a punch line and not treated with proper gravity imo

In fairness I don't see how Asgard being destroyed could ever have been taken as a serious plot considering it never existed as anything other than eye-burning CGI. We know absolutely nothing about the place outside of Thor's family and personal friend circle.
