I had assumed that most everyone on earth would've gotten it by now and we would've lost like 2% of us

I was specifically worried it would cause Human extinction or at least cripple civilization

I was very freaked out.

I thought it'd last 6 months. Then I saw how it was being handled and figured it'd take at least a year.
Now I suspect 4 years.

Kind of. I was aware that in Asian countries mask wearing was just a thing forever after SARS or whatever it was 20 years ago. They had alot viruses one after another and it just sorta became a way of life over there for a lot of people. Seemed likely that would be the natural course for us too. I'm not sure I thought it would be endemic (which I definitely now do), but I did sorta feel like it was gonna be real, real bad.

Nope, at multiple points I thought it would be short. When it first got revealed, I thought it would end up being no big deal like Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Ebola, etc. Then when we entered lockdown, I figured everyone would comply and we'd be back to normal in a month or two.

Never could I have predicted that we'd be almost 2 years in with people talking about their freedom to basically not help this go away.

at first at first? i didn't really know what to expect. the information out of china was sketchy at best. was probably hoping it'd blow over like the sars scare a few years ago.

once the first shutdowns started, though? started expecting something like 1918. 26 months, though i'm not sure exactly how that was counted. but we're probably looking at at least 6 months more than that this time around.

Most people in this country live pay check to pay check. Telling everyone to stay inside was never going to be an option. It took our Government way too long to decide how it was going to help those whose work did shut down too.

I had a feeling it would, if only because of human stupidity. In fact, my prediction has been that this is going to be a constant threat we'd have to be vaccinated for, much like the flu.

Wouldn't surprise me if 5 were correct though. Seems like most scientists are predicting a bigger lean towards normalcy in 2022, and should things continue going at least moderately well, fine by 2024.

Right now I'm hoping the treatment (Paxlovid or some such? The COVID antiviral pill) helps with the unvaccinated problem when/if it takes off.

Once it had begun to fill up hospitals in Italy, NYC etc (i.e. February 2020) I was expecting at least 2 years. Honestly I didn't think we would even get a vaccine until around the end of 2021, so I was pleasantly surprised by that.

Didn't pay too much attention to it until Italy shut down. That's when I knew things were gonna be bad. Didn't realize even then how poorly we were going to handle it tho.

I thought it would've blown over in a year. But I'm not familiar with how these types of things go based on past diseases/viruses...

I expected it to last at least a year, but I didn't expect so many people doing their part to keep it around, and that the numbers would still be this high. It kind of crushed what little faith I had left in humanity, the past two years have been a clown show.

The amount of No votes are startling. It was pretty clear from the beginning it's here to stay.

Edit: Actually, when it first started in January, I was worried about it, but didn't know too much about it.

At first? No. There had been SARS and MERS before and it seemed like it'd be like that. Once work finally made 100% WFH the standard, that's when I knew it'd be around for much longer.

When I first heard about it, I thought it was just another virus scare that would blow over. West Nile, ebola, swine flu, we've seen it before.

When actual lockdowns started happening, I knew it was gonna be bad.

And the second Mr. Trump took to the airwaves to start politicizing it, I knew it was gonna be REALLY bad. The second some people started injecting themselves with disinfectant after his stupid-ass press conference that summer, I had a good idea we were likely fucked.

When the narrative shifted to "we've gotta get back to work," while cases were still rising, I knew it was endemic.

And when Biden got elected and began taking over the operation, I knew all hope of widespread vaccination died right there, that day.

I thought it would be like swine flu or ebola. Here then gone.

But apparently in America anyway there are too many people actively FIGHTING against getting rid of it. Refusing protection in every form. I swear I wouldn't feel any sympathy if any of them died, including my family members. Fucking idiots.

One of the last things my dad said to me is he didn't trust the vaccine and didn't think covid was as bad as the media says. Then he died from it. I feel bad that he's gone, but no sympathy.
