That's awful. At least you know it's coming and can make the most of the time you have left with her, though. Make her last month a great one. :)

I'm sorry to hear that =[
Loosing a pet is hard, they're family. I've been there before and it's the worst.
Please make their last month the best ever, burgers every night and tons of pets.

Knowing death is coming is one of the worst things in the world. Ignorance is bliss suits perfectly in this case. Anyways tc, all the best. My dog of 13 years died in my arms, and it put me into shock for awhile. Give yourself several months to grieve, and don't be afraid of getting another pup to start anew.

I very, very strongly disagree. I lost one of my birds back in August and it was extremely sudden. He went from flying around, normal, with the others, to seeming slightly off, to very clearly unwell, to dead, within the space of about half a fucking hour. One of the things that gets me the most is that I had basically no warning of this, and that his last minutes alive were sitting in a near-empty cage in the back of the car as I raced to the vets (unsuccessfully as he died on the way); had this been a situation where I knew, I could've given him an extra special last few days, or at the very fucking least been there holding him instead of driving the car.

It's easy to think that way when you haven't had to deal with a very sudden, unexpected death. It's a very different picture once you have, trust me.

Been there and it sucks. Honestly it would be humane not to wait that long if its in pain. Try to be in the room when it happens.

Easy to think that way? I just said my dog died in my arms. That was sudden. Fuck off.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, for those who asked about possibly treating it, unfortunately it's not an option. It is bone cancer in her nasal sinus area so they can't completely remove the tumor because it's too close to her brain and chemotherapy is not very effective with that type of cancer. I was told by the veterinarian my only avenue now is to provide my dog as much comfort as I can until that day sadly hits, tearing me up inside knowing I'm about to lose my shadow the past eight and a half years

he past eight and a half years

that's too young to lose the dog. my cat had abdominal cancer. i was given a choice to maybe buy a few more weeks by removing fluid from her abdomen which would be awful or putting her to sleep. she only made it to 10 years.

my brother gave me the cat to care for since he couldn't take her with him to the new place.
