K-Pop group BTSs tweet decrying anti-Asian hate is Twitters most retweeted post of 2021, the company said Thursday. The group posted the tweet March 29 following a series of shootings earlier that month at Atlanta area spas killing 8 people, six of whom were Asian women. "We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason," the group wrote. "Our own experience are inconsequential compared to the events that have occurred over the past few weeks. But these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem." BTS spoke out again against anti-Asian hate last week after their first in-person concert since the beginning of the pandemic, saying when they talk about Asian hate, our path, all the awards and our music, we just hope that this can truly help every Asian in the world. If there is something that we can help ... were always open. Well try to expand the variety and stop the discrimination and racism, Kim Nam-Joon said.

There were more than 9,000 incidents of hate targeting Asian Americans from the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic through June 2021, according to a report published in August. Stop AAPI Hate received 9,081 reports in that timeframe, with nearly 2,500 incidents reported between April and June. Reports ranged from verbal and online harassment to physical assault. A majority of the reports were submitted by women.
