Uh oh, Joe Rogan alert

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNTu3U6KwEM

If you don't follow this kind of thing, the guest is a youtuber who has become a bit of a cult hero in the fitness world for talking openly about steroid use and gear and exposing people who lie about steroid use (fake nattys).

TL;DW - unachievable female body standards are at least fairly achievable provided you're willing to calorie restrict, unacheivable male body standards require significant amounts of gear that will kill you in 15 years. Neither of these things are good but it's often overlooked how men have their own body image problems to deal with.

I dont know about this. So many women I knew in high school told me how they used to have eating disorders trying to stay thin. Yeah, it's tough for men too, but it shouldn't be a contest of pushing each other down.

I was expecting them to go more into depth about male body standards. Instead, they just complain about overweight people and women for most of that time.

From what I understand, most male protagonists have achievable body forms. There are just a few roided outliers that are obviously not achievable. Not even going into unrealistic proportions simply stemming from its artstyle.

It's also much rarer to find men who want to have the exact unrealistic forms of certain superheroes. They get close enough.

That's true and I don't mean to make it a contest, only that it's forgotten that men have body issues too. For whatever reason, we don't tend to get the eating disorders as often.

What do you consider achievable?

Coming straight out with it, Thor, Captain America, Wolverine, Christian Bale in every movie - these are not achievable body standards, at least not in the timeframe they are presented as.

I'm only talking about the movie versions here. The comic book versions are a complete joke. You'd need Ronnie Coleman genetics and gear and training to get to that level.

Also this. Doing gear for a movie role won't kill you, but it does set an unrealistic standard.

Yeah, that's bonkers. There are plenty of beauty standards for women (regarding traits) that can be as immutable as height or penis size. No amount of diet and exercise can give a woman a flat tummy, hourglass figure, a "thigh gap" or fix their "cankles" if they don't have the genetics for it.

Saying stuff like that is a great way not to be taken seriously.

The point is that the things you can fix can be done through normal measures, but for men they simply can't. Men have the same height or penis size genetics problems, but then to add to that they have the stuff that can only be attained through taking PEDs which is a huge open secret in hollywood.

I really didn't mean to make this a competition, though. Obviously women have their own bullshit and it's a real thing. My ex has an ED, i know the score intimately. I just wanted to highlight that male body standards problems also exist.

Well, that's fine. I agree more or less. There's a ton of fake nattys out there and other people keep thinking they got like that naturally. Literally every super jacked dude is on some kind of juice, but I've ran into a lot of people who will swear some IG bodybuilder is natural cause he says he is

All of the MCU stars are on steroids and/or growth hormone when they are preparing for their films. These are the men that teenage and early 20s boys look up to. Yeah its unrealistic, unethical, but no one really cares about mens issues so it doesnt matter (men dont care about mens issues either).

Women want a man with a body only achievable by steroids, but without the steroids. And they want him to look like that while only going to the gym 1-2 times a week, even though he still needs to go 3-4 times a week.

I dont disagree but there's some form of acceptance across both men and women regarding realistic body expectations for men. 'Dad bod' was a thing for a while, men kinda ruined that for themselves. There really isn't a comparable, desirable body type for women.

Its a lot harder to find ripped male celebs that are natural than those who are on the juice. Chris Hemsworth, The Rock, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Chris Evans are all roided out

And even these people with all the steroids dont even look as good as their comic book counter parts lol

Good for Robert Pattinson on refusing to go on steroids and gain 30 lbs of muscle for Batman

I don't want to make it a competition but there is a difference between male and female fitness and have our society interprets that.

"Body positivity" has become "fat encouragement". Men aren't really allowed to be overweight and be perceived as attractive. Even while I'm at my job I have when I'm offered carby foods or desserts I'm telling them oh I can't really eat that I'm trying to lose weight. I have female coworkers telling me "you're fine how you are you don't need to", yet they aren't the ones who are going to be choosing to date me or sleep with me.

Women's choice of men is so extensive that they have no trouble finding men who are bean poles even if they are large. Even right now as I type this out, I'm out here on the track exercising and trying to lose weight because I want to become a more attractive bachelor. Women on the other hand have such a large selection, they aren't really compelled to improve the same way men are. The majority of the women I've slept with over the past decade have been overweight ranging to severely obese.

In finality, obesity effects your chances negatively of getting a date or getting laid really only if you're a guy.

"Obviously they have their own issues with unrealistic body image, you know, things that are portrayed to be the ideal for women but those physiques are achievable through like, some nutrient deprivation or excessive cardio or whatever."

Separate that from the male body image issue for a second and look at that solely for what it is. It's patently untrue. There are plenty of beauty standards for women that cannot be met this way by a considerable portion of women and the idea that they can goes a long way in fueling things like ED and dangerous body modifications.

Framed by him saying he finds it hilarious how many women complain about body image, Rogan saying some women just want an excuse to be fat, then calling people "fat fucks" seriously undermines an otherwise cogent point that yeah, most dudes are not going to look like Dwayne Johnson or Liam Hemsworth without tons of gear and no mere human is ever going to look like a comic book character. You don't have to throw women under the bus to make that point, especially in such a condescending and dishonest way.

But the clip highlights a huge problem within the "manosphere": no matter how legitimate a problem is, it's damn near impossible for these guys to talk about it without underpinning some sort of misconception (being generous here) about an imbalance or unfairness that men are on the short end of. That's bullshit and shouldn't be spread, especially by anyone who takes this issue seriously and wants to advance discussion of it. Same thing with pretty much every issue men face and why things like the MRA movement are seen as a joke. We can't get out of our own damn way sometimes.
