Very few other franchises recycle the exact same formula from game to game as metroid. Samus loses powers due to plot contrivance. Samus regains powers one by one while being hindered by random environmental hazards. Entire planet blows up for no reason. The fun is in the gameplay. I don't think it will maintain much long-term appeal when people start looking back at the overall franchise in retrospect. The biggest letdown is that the plot just doesn't address anything.
