I want to like it.

It's like a PS1 resident evil but with better graphics
The train section is cool
The bosses are fun
At least it tried something new with the single player co-op idea.

But Jesus it's so clunky. The awkward movement/fixed cameras are bad even for RE standards. Half the time the character is looking directly at the enemy but you can't see them.

There's no storage boxes so stuff is just dumped on the floor like a 14 year old boy with no parents

And just the constant menu fiddling/backtracking/trading items is a chore.

Meanwhile the plot is goofy and bad even for B Horror standards. The villain sucks and nothing that happens makes a lick of sense. By itself let alone before you tie it into RE1.

After playing the excellent RE2 Remake that does pretty much the same thing (except single player co-op) but 815% better. It's so hard to go back.

I know inventory management is a core Resident Evil concept but in 0 it just isn't fun. It never feels like you're making tense calls deciding what weapons or healing items to take and what to leave. It feels like a frustrating game of guess which key items you're gonna need to use or pick up.

It's not so bad on replays but first time around it's painful

I don't want to have to bring up my menu every 4 fucking seconds. Let me quick select my weapons please.

CV holds up even worse. Resident Evil has to be one of the most inconsistent game series out there in terms of quality. Their games are all over the place.

I played it and really wanted to like it due to the cool setting and visuals. Then I got to the part where I first needed to throw things on the floor to manage inventory. I literally quit the game on the spot and never played again

Only played through 0 once and probably never will again. Having no item boxes was a pretty garbage decision

I wonder if anyones ever modded the game to introduce item boxes

I like 0 but it's definitely got its issues. I hated lugging that bookshop through like two-thirds of the game. Made the mistake of leaving it behind in the training facility foyer once and had to backtrack a ton to get it.

I wish the N64 version would get dumped. It would be nice to see how much different it was from the GCN version.

i didnt like how it kind of forced you to use billy for boss fights
i mean you could use rebecca for them which i tend to do

but barry can take a hit and keep coming, rebecca is put into dying status by a light breeze gently brushing against her skin

I love it. Obviously the inventory system is a pain in the ass but otherwise its great IMO.

it never did feel tense. if anything not having set magic boxes adds even more "challenge" to knowing when to drop shit and what to take woth you.

Walking back and forth across empty corridors to pick an item you left behind back up is not a challenge to anything except patient

billy is the tank and rebecca dies easy

Once you master the game its one of the best tbh. Zapping through hallways and big sections and your inventory will never be full

But you don't really do that in the other games. They're just better designed.

RE0 is one of the only games I have ever played that is way more fun with cheats on. Giving yourself infinite ammo and removing the item management from the game makes it a much more enjoyable experience to play.

I remember for a few years Resident Evil 0 was one of those games that people talked about being amazing but nobody had actually played it, a bit like Sonic CD. Then like Sonic CD, it was ported to more modern systems so everyone got a chance to play it and went "oh. This isn't that good at all actually".

Although they were wrong about Sonic CD, it's the best 2D Sonic game. Resident Evil 0 though, FUCK I just realised I'm thinking of Code Veronica. Ignore everything I just said.

The item box thing was a pain. When you moved to a new area you'd have to make about 6 trips to move all your gear to the new location. Did they ever fix that in the remaster?
