So basically, it's looking like storms in my area are going to knock out my local power in the near future. Living without electricity is miserable, so I thought about just renting a nearby hotel and staying there until the storm subsides.

Problem is that I've heard hotels specifically check your ID and deny people who are staying in their own hometowns. Reason is that it's suspicious... something about people cheating on their spouses, and it's too much of a liability for the hotels to take. Is it true they're going to be wary and turn me away if they see that my home address is not far away?

Just tell them you're cheating on your wife. That way it isn't suspicious.

Its not illegal to cheat to the point where the hotel would have to play police. I doubt they care. They wouldnt turn away money for something like that.

Well it doesn't hurt to try and just tell them why you want to stay.

I've never even heard of people getting turned away for that; do you live in a super Christian town or something?

This is actually a thing but not really prevalent anymore and it was never about cheating. The reason is if you live in the town and you're renting a room you might be doing it to throw a wild party or something that might cause damage you don't want at your own place

Id want to know where TC got this information. Also, I must be missing something. Why would you ride out a storm somewhere so close by? How is a hotel without power better? Do they do generators or something? Also, crack a book.

I've literally never heard of that.

It's not because of cheating, it's because of prostitution and drugs, and it's very real. It probably depends on your area and the chain.

We had a hotel about 7 blocks from my place in NYC that was basically an hourly hotel just for fucking.

There was a Sheraton a bit further down and they were super suspicious about everybody that didn't look like a tourist. I don't think they ever had any policies banning anybody, but they definitely didn't want people using it for quick fucks.

I've never had the problem. I've done "staycations" when I had family living with me and I needed my own time.

There was a portion of my life where I was living in a motel once. Even though you see it on TV and movies all the time, I was shocked by the amount of prostitutes walking around and the business looking dudes they were taking into rooms >_>

Motels don't necessarily care about cheating. It's prostitution and drug use they're trying to avoid.
