I'm doing the Imperial side and the 2nd half is literally just
*go to Imperial camp*
*talk to Rikke*
*kill like 50 Stormcloaks in a fort*
*report back to General Tullus and he tells you to go to a new Imperial camp*

Repeat like 5 fucking times >_>

Does the Stormcloak side mix it up a bit or is it the same shit?

ugh. Like by the 4th fort, I literally just cheated with console commands because I was so sick of killing guys and wanted to get it over it. This quest sucks >_>

They wanted to do a lot more for the civil war but it got cut from time restraints. They should've just cut the civil war from vanilla and released it in its full-fledged form as DLC. People would've been pissed but I would've preferred it

I think its dumb that the Dovahkin would just be a giant meatshield for some generalissimo or king instead of seizing Skyrim for himself or just not caring

Awful questline, but at least you can get the Jagged Crown back through inventory trickery, so...there's that.

thieves guild and forsworn are certainly worse in terms of the writing

if you look at the source files you can see the civil war questline was butchered, at some point it was supposed to be way more involved but either they ran out of time before launch or the code monkeys at bethesda couldn't fix it so they just cut like 70% of it. there was a mod years ago by apollodown (i think) that did a lot to try to restore it but he had a breakdown and pulled all his mods from nexus, it was a mess but it did improve the questline.

that's a continuous issue with the modding scene sadly. sometimes mod makers flip this shit because they're getting negative comments from trolls or legitimate complaints on how they're making/maintaining their mods and just pull everything. you can often find the mods elsewhere, because nothing on the internet is ever truly deleted, but with a mod that is several years out of date its probably a waste of time.

How shitty must the Stormcloaks' scouts be to fail to appreciate how weak Whiterun's fortifications are from the other side?

You can also do stuff like sending in followers to do the work for you, particularly the ones that are unkillable.

i looked up some of the cut content and it's pretty cool. There were supposed to be battles in every city, not just White Run. Markarth has a scene from it where Galmor Stone-fist executes one of the Thalmor justicars if you supposedly completed the seize there for the Stormcloaks.

There's also a mechanic where if you just defeat the Jarl in a fight instead of taking a fort, the game automatically says you beat it. There was probably a leftover from the seizes that were cut, but they forgot to disable it. But it's super glitchy and can prevent you for finishing a bunch of quests, so you probably shouldnt do it >_>
